This is a great resource place for veterans staffed by a very polite and professional staff. They have plenty of programs to provide help with employment, housing and many others. In the 4 years or so of dealing with them they have always been respectful, helpful and professional. They can get stuff done! Great work CVI!!

Applied for rent assistance to avoid an eviction from my apartment lease. Was told that I matched all their criteria for help. Was strung along for three weeks to find out they won’t help cover my rent because it’s too expensive. Horrible professionalism and communication. I had to personally initiate 95 percent of all communication for any updates. It was a complete waste of time and added nothing but more stress to an already stressful time. Their professional advice was to get evicted then they can help me with a security deposit for a new place. Nobody’s going to rent to me with an eviction. A complete waste of time and horrible communication. Avoid CVI at all costs unless you want more stress in your life.

Recently I asked for help at the C.V.I.. I was left to sit waiting in the reception area without knowing what was going on. I was asking for help in my situation. I had completed a long, lengthy assessment questionnaire, approximately ten pages long--numerous unnecessary questions and information asked for. I was waiting to talk to a case manager. This person stepped up to the entrance doorway and asked me a few questions. Without knowing much about my situation she said, "I'm sorry we cannot help you." So essentially she did not even take the time to have me sit at her desk and share my situation in confidence. Not only was this unethical, it was a sad excuse of a case manager. I asked her if she was going to see me, to ask more questions (mind you everyone could hear our conversation.) I was so disappointed, dejected and shocked by this entire interaction I just went back to my car. I wanted to cry but saved the energy. Before leaving I stated, "So basically I need to be homeless on the street to get any help at all?" No one answered the question. They were more concerned about some local barbecue place they were going to order lunch from....seriously. I am telling the truth here. Nobody even took thirty seconds of their precious time to see what I was going through or offer any other resources. I am a Female Disabled Veteran. It was beyond appalling. I found most people to be more concerned about a new purse they were going to buy, or where they would order lunch. Yes, I heard all of their conversations out in the open. A sorry excuse for a place stating they are helping Veterans. They should call it a Homeless Veterans Issue Center. Furthermore, it is a tragedy how many female veterans get lost in the dust. Shame on them. It is mind boggling how many self serving people I have interacted with at this place. I will not forget. I will not refer and I will not keep quiet about it.

I have such mixed feelings about this location and the building that it's in.

The services and benefits that the CVI offers is so important to our vets and keep many of it's residents from being homeless.
They also offer some health care, meals and stability for our vets.

The building needs to be updated as right now it's very antiquated.
Supplies such as bedding and other everyday items are limited.
Food served is high carb and high fat content.
It would be great if CVI could get assistance from food pantries such as Great Harvest and others like it.
And the CVI could raise awareness of their work and services and ask for fresh vegetable donations from private citizens that may have extra vegetables in their garden.

The location is, well, not ideal.
Gunshots ring out nightly and surrounding businesses are robbed frequently.

While the current conditions at the CVI are better than nothing, I feel that our vets deserve so much more for the personal sacrifices that they have made so that we can maintain our freedom.
