Tired of the same old education rut? Acton Academy Essex County has been a breath of fresh air for my two kids in the Elementary Studio! They’re empowered to learn at their own pace, guided by curiosity and hands-on projects that spark real growth. The Socratic discussions kick off each day, encouraging them to think deeply and wrestle with big questions, while the learner-driven approach helps them uncover their strengths and passions. It’s a tight-knit community where character matters as much as mastery, setting them on a path to find their unique calling. Couldn’t recommend it more!

I can't help but wonder how my life would have changed for the better if I grew up in an environment like Acton! I have spent years as an adult trying to find my passions. So, I knew I wouldn't be putting my children in public school, and we are so thrilled we found Acton! Of course they learn all the things a child should learn at school, but not at the expense of their sense of self, and love of learning! I love that life skills and character building is at the core of the Acton philosophy.

This school is such a special place. Growing up my parents would have to drag me out the door to get to school on time or I’d fake being sick so that I could get out of it. My kids, now in their 4th year at Acton Essex, are the ones pulling my husband or I out the door to make sure they are on time and often time fake feeling well so that they don’t miss a day. I could credit the engaging curriculum and the fun projects but I’d say the real reason is because my kids have agency in their learning because they are in the driver’s seat. The Acton philosophy of a Hero’s Journey isn’t a nice marketing slogan they thought of but really a core tenet of how they foster and support education not just of intellect but also of character. Like I said, this is a very special school and I am so glad that my kids are a part of it.

Acton Academy is a mixed-age, collaborative, project-based, learner-driven environment. We could not be more grateful that we found this school two and a half years ago through friends who were sending their kids there. Our two very different children have both benefited tremendously - becoming more thoughtful, confident, independent and proactive. We have also learned a lot as parents and find that our family overall has benefited. The Acton Academy Verona community is warm, welcoming and supportive. Because the program empowers kids to take responsibility for their own learning (within a framework that encourages and supports them), it can be, at first, challenging (especially for parents) but, like many worthwhile endeavors, sticking with it builds skills, abilities and confidence that are impossible without this effort.

Enrolling at Acton Academy Verona as a high schooler was one of the most daunting things I've done in my entire life, but it proved to be the best decision I ever made. Prior to coming here, I lacked motivation and work ethic, but now, I am independent, organized, and able to find motivation within myself to work for as long and hard as I need.
Acton has a revolutionary structure of curriculum that allows each student to explore their interests and passion and turn it into actionable change. At all times, students exhibit critical thinking, explore deep themes and rich history, and learn the practical skills they need to succeed in the real world.
Acton Academy promises parents that their children will "begin a meaningful hero's journey," "be curious, independent, and a lifelong learner," and "discover his or her's most precious gift and learn to use them to solve difficult problems in the world." With utmost gratitude, I can say that Acton does this and more.

As a parent, I have been thoroughly impressed with Acton Academy and its unique approach to education. The school emphasizes not just academic skills but also life skills such as resilience, problem-solving and character development. We also appreciate the self-paced and self-directed learning style the school promotes. Students have agency to set their own goals and manage their time and the result has been beautiful to witness in our children. It boosted their confidence and sense of independence but also helped them manage struggles knowing that they’re on their own timetable.

We, the parents, have also benefited from belonging to such an involved and warm community, where the common goal is to cultivate an environment that empowers children to become independent thinkers and lifelong learners.
