Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area

The Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area, located at 850 W Broadway, Jackson, WY 83001, stands as a beacon of community support and sustainable development in the Jackson, Wyoming region. This esteemed non-profit organization is dedicated to its mission of creating decent, affordable housing for those in need within its service area, encompassing parts of Wyoming and Idaho. The organization operates under the internationally recognized principles of Habitat for Humanity, mobilizing volunteers and resources to build and renovate homes.

Core Mission and Activities

At its heart, Habitat for Humanity is a Christian-fraternal organization working in the tradition of the Church to put people action to build homes, communities, and hope. The Greater Teton chapter extends this principle locally. While its primary focus is home construction and repair, a key aspect of its model is the “Habitat with a Hand Up” philosophy. This means that families receiving assistance are expected to contribute 'sweat equity' – hours of their own labor – during the building process. This fosters a sense of ownership and pride. Furthermore, homeowners typically partner with the organization by obtaining a zero-interest loan to help repay the costs of construction and other related expenses.

Volunteerism is the lifeblood of the organization. The chapter relies heavily on the generous time and skills of local residents, tourists, and organizations. Volunteers aged 14 and older are welcome to participate in building projects, home repairs, and various support roles. Beyond physical construction, the organization also engages in renovation projects, disaster response efforts (when needed), and community outreach. Their work significantly contributes to the social services fabric of the Jackson area, addressing homelessness and housing instability.

The Community Store

One highly recommended feature for visitors and locals alike is the Community Store associated with the Greater Teton chapter. This store serves a dual purpose: it provides a crucial source of revenue to fund the organization's building projects and it acts as a community hub offering everyday essentials. Shoppers can find a wide range of household goods, groceries, and personal care items. As highlighted in a positive review, the store is known for being well-organized and clean, making the shopping experience pleasant. It's a practical stop for residents needing staples and supplies.

For families visiting the Jackson area, the store often becomes a convenient source for items specific to children. According to feedback, it stocks useful items like children's books and educational cards, proving valuable during family stays. This convenience factor makes the store a noteworthy destination beyond just supporting the organization's vital work.

Accessibility and Location

The organization is mindful of inclusivity. The facility is wheelchair accessible, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring that services and shopping are available to everyone in the community. Its location on West Broadway in Jackson makes it easily accessible to both residents and visitors exploring the town.

The mission of Habitat for Humanity extends beyond mere shelter; it aims to honor the dignity of all people by offering a hand up, not a handout. By providing safe and affordable housing, the organization helps families become more stable and self-sufficient. For individuals seeking ways to contribute to their community or looking for volunteer opportunities, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area represents an impactful avenue for positive change. Those interested in donating goods for the store, volunteering time, or learning about homeownership programs are encouraged to visit their location or contact them via 3077340828 or explore their website tetonhabitat.org. Their ongoing efforts are crucial to maintaining a vibrant and supportive community in the Jackson area.

We were in Wyoming for a family trip and stopped by in search of children items. It was very clean and organized, I was impressed and would probably buy more if I lived in WY. We found a children book and educational cards that were great entertainment for the road. The lady at the register, Nicole B. was amazingly generous and friendly, who went above and beyond to make my child happy for the day! I appreciated her generosity and will return here when we come back!

This is THE place to go searching high quality hard goods of all kinds for your home. Furniture, stereo, appliances, lighting, rugs, sinks, you name it. If they don't have what you need, keep stopping by. Best of all, your donation or purchase benefits Habitat for Humanity. I know a multi-millionaire who regularly shops here!

Wonderful second hand household goods. We were moving our father out of his home and asked about them picking up some furniture. Very friendly and motivated staff. Polite and professional. Organizations like this reflect great credit on Jackson and the people that live and work there.

Teton Habitat does such great work for our Jackson Hole community! I visit the ReStore in town regularly & recently participated in the national #WomenBuild a few weeks back. I was extremely impressed by the way the volunteer building operation was run.

I know nothing about power saws, nail guns & putting up siding, so I was very much out of my comfort zone to start. However, after being taught by their lead builders, I was (like) a pro! Plus, the Teton Habitat staff is very professional & kind. It felt great to volunteer & take a day off from my busy schedule to help a Teton County community member in need.

If you are a local or visiting our area & want to do something kind with your time, please call Teton Habitat to see how you can help! They are always looking for volunteers - especially groups & families. There's lots of things to be done when building a home & they can always find something that fits your comfort level.

Thank you Teton Habitat, for all you do!
Keep up the great work 😊

Great stuff. Awful service. My mom had already payed for a bed base and at the moment of pickup they had told her they had sold it already!! It wasn’t only reserved but already payed for by mom FIRST. We asked for our refund and they had the audacity to tell her she would get it in TWO days! What kind of service is that?!?
