Rabbi Shmotkin came to Milwaukee in 1968. Five years later he bought this magnificent 100 room mansion near Lakeshore drive, which became and remains the heart of Jewish orthodoxy on the Eastside. We came for a wedding, and needed lodging for 10 adults and 16 grandkids. There was no better place to host my family than Lubavitch House over Shabbos. Rabbi Lein runs and directs everything there. We arranged our Friday night meals, and sponsored a full sit down kiddush through him after an aufruf on Shabbos day. The kids had a blast. The adults had plenty of room for their sizeable families. The mikvah is gorgeous, and the davening was at a good pace. As Floridians in town for the weekend, we were even blessed with a fluffy snowfall on April 2nd. The whole experience was a brocha and a fairytale come true.
