My grandmother spent 3 weeks in this facility after breaking her hip in June. To this day, she refers to Aspire as the “institute” or “prison.” Some of the workers were kind, but ONLY after a week or two of getting to know them.

Ten days into her stay, they were still leaving the call button, food, and walker across the room. She was recovering from hip surgery…she couldn’t freely walk to go get those things. They didn’t seem to care. She got there on a Friday night and was not changed or helped to bathe until Sunday when our family members did it ourselves. We even had to call up to the front desk several times, because the call button was either too far away for her to reach or she hit it and they did not respond.

As soon as you walk in, you’re overwhelmed with the stench of a nursing home. It is meant to be a rehabilitation facility, not a nursing home. The CNAs do it all (preparing food, cleaning, etc) so many things were left undone.

My grandmother was very fond of the rehab staff. They challenged her and we are grateful. That’s our only compliment.

All in all, wouldn’t recommend if you love your family member and lead a busy life.

My dad is at Aspire now for rehab after a heart attack and heart surgery. I hope I can get him out of this awful place. We have had to bathe him and bring towels and rags from home. Beg for clean sheets to put on his bed that we make up ourselves. You even have to bring your own trash can liners because they don't put one in the garbage cans. His roommate next to him never gets waited on as well. I had to get that poor man some water and help him. You also have to make sure that the correct medicine is given. It's by far one the WORST places I've ever seen. I think DHR for the elderly should be called and I might just do that.

My grandfather was sent here for PT after being discharged from the hospital. This isn’t our first time having him in a inpatient PT center. The first time we had him at Forest manor and I had to end his treatment early bc of poor care. I was so nervous about having him in another facility after our first experience but decided on Aspire. I’m so happy with the decision I’ve made! The facility is really clean and all the staff were great during his stay! He was happy with the meals and treatment he received while in their care. I would definitely recommend Aspire! Thank you all for your taking such good care of him and all the help getting him home!

I've two occasions to be grateful to Aspire, West Alabama. My mom broke her hip and was rehabbed there. Can't say enough about the therapy and care she received! Had her walking with a walker comfortably within two weeks. Now, my aunt has a seriously broken ankle and is there to rehab after a complicated surgery. The administrator even knew that she had an orthopedic surgeon's appointment and was looking forward to increasing her therapy, if acceptable. I am so comfortable with my loved ones in their care! Great floor team and therapy team.

My mother came here after hip replacement surgery. I was able to visit 2 days later, before lunchtime. Her breakfast tray was still in her room. This probably wouldn't be a big deal if their employees were actually busy as they probably should have been since the facility was at full capacity with over 100 patients. BUT when I arrived, there were CNA's sitting at bedside trays, outside patient rooms, on their phones. My mom's oxygen level had dropped to 88 so she was on oxygen. She should have been administered breathing treatments every 4 hours. When I mentioned it, it seemed as if no one even knew what that was. Just blank stares. Before her health had declined, she had not had any physical therapy. When I asked why, I was told that they did have therapy with her. "We got her out of bed and sat her in a chair in her room." They left her in that chair for 4 hours. Take the call buttons out of their rooms because no one is coming to help. My mom thought hers was broken. We were told that she wasn't having physical therapy because she was in "isolation" for 7 days due to COVID. Its protocol for new patients. That's fine but it would have been nice to know when admitting her. I'm pretty sure its not a good idea to wait 7 days to start PT. When they brought her dinner that evening, it wasn't on a dinner plate nor did she receive silverware. It was a Styrofoam to-go box with white, plastic utensils that almost broke when trying to cut her meat. I asked the CNA for silverware, I was told, "We ain't got no silver here." I told her that she had silverware that morning. She ignored me and kept walking. A nurse came over and said they give disposable utensils and dinnerware to new patients in isolation. If anyone actually used their brain in this place, they could come up with a better solution that doesn't make a patient feel degraded or one where someone, who is elderly, can actually cut their food and eat it. Day 4, 10:30 a.m., I arrived and mom was sitting in that chair again. Her sheets were detached from her mattress. Her room smelled bad because they had not bothered to empty her bedside commode. She had not been given a breathing treatment since 5:30 p.m. the previous evening after they told me she would get one every 4 hours. I was worried she was going to get pneumonia. I told her I was taking her home. I could take better care of her than this staffed facility who did nothing. I left to run some errands and came back to get her at 4:30. Her lunch Styrofoam container and trash were still on her tray. There were several CNA's sitting on the couches in the common areas and some at their trays, outside patient rooms, on their phones with scratch note pads, folded, and positioned upright with patients vitals and medical information handwritten on them for everyone to see. I'm pretty sure HIPAA would love that. (I included a picture with patient information covered) Mom's CNA had stepped away and left patient information there for everyone to see. During this nightmare fiasco, I spoke with the executive director, Casey, twice. He has the same attitude as the employees he hires. He just looked at me with a smug, arrogant smile and offered no solutions. He walked right by us as we were leaving, 17 days earlier than planned, and never said a word. This all happen to a 74 year old woman, after a hip replacement surgery, who completely relied on these employees for help. That didn't happen here. What happens to those who do not have family members to advocate for them? This place is appalling, unwelcoming, uninformed and incompassionate. I would not be surprised to find out that some of the positive reviews for Aspire are from staff family members and friends because if there are some compassionate employees in this place that actually care about these patients, I certainly didn't meet any. And as expected, I will receive the same default response to this review as everyone else. I DID reach out to your staff for help. None came. I actually told my mother, "We're on our own. No one is coming to help us."

I spent two weeks at Aspire after a week in ICU following my accident. The people at Aspire were incredible. They took exceptional care of me. I can’t say enough about the OT and PT staff. Michelle, my PT, was great. Even though we laughed a lot she pushed me everyday to walk again and I did. I thank her so much for doing so. Haley, my OT, made sure I could manage taking care of myself within reason. Thank you. To all the PT staff, thank you so much for taking such good care of me and I hope I never have to go back again.

Where shall I begin to say how horrible this place is? The only thing nice about it is the building. I took my grandmother there for rehab and I wouldn't recommend no one leave a sheet of paper there of they really care about it. This was our first time in a rehab facility and the only reason we went because the was suppose to administer a med through IV for the next three days after bring admitted. Three days turned into six days and each time I questioned the nurse's they lied about it. I randomly went there in the daytime to see if were doing there job. Each time I went my grandmother was dirty and the CNA'S had bedside tables and chairs in the hallway talking on there phones. I asked if I need to to bring anything other than clothes and her favorite things I was told no. But every week the CNA'S would say we are waiting on the truck to bring the supplies we need. My grandmother was given men's underwear because the truck hadnt ran with the supplies. I arrived at the facility one day and my grandmother's face was bruised. I asked the Nurse Stacey if she had been in her room and she replied that she and the DON Me Me had just helped her back in bed but neither of them saw the huge purple bruise on her face. I requested medical attention and she received it. She had a sore or her that was very painful to touch and each time I questioned the nurse's about it. They would bring in what they called a barrier cream. Each time it was something different. I received a call from the treatment nurse stating that she was administering wound care and it was never treated. During the discharge meeting I couldn't ask to many questions because they were so in to much of a hurry to answer my questions (Join the therapist, NP, and the case manager who was hardly ever available)
