Absolutely sucks here. Antiquated facilities bathrooms are disgusting 🤮. I don’t know when they made improvements last. Can’t even find a parking spot. There are far too many people than they can accommodate. This is on a week day at 10 am When kids are in school and people work
They need to expand. When you can’t use a machine or cardio. Because every thing is being used they need to expand. Where’s all the money going ? Silver sneakers and other programs pay for the membership so where is this all going?
I understand that they help financially challenge members but what good is it when you can’t work out. This facility is in need of some serious upgrades and needs to make room big enough to accommodate all the members it’s absolutely ridiculous. My insurance covers my membership here but I pay out of my pocket $150 a month to go somewhere else because I can’t get a work out in. Stop accepting new members and expand your facility and for god sake put some windows in in The building is depressing and feels like a dungeon. Go look at other YMCA in other cities. Why does ours look like this. What are you doing with the money 💰 there needs to be a investigation

People at the desk are always friendly and helpful greeting me and saying goodbye every time. The gym is nice and the pool is big. Plenty of seating as well

Weight room is good, Lots of machines and high quality free weights. Great gym tor the price but the open hours are stupid. I would almost rather pay more for a 24 hr gym

Bad directors at the Portage location. Can never keep the place under control and are not a good source of accurate information. Very condescending and shows favoritism to certain members OFTEN. If you only want to play basketball in the winter it will be crowded and the staff will be rude and give you a hard time.

Great facilities and group fitness classes. Comes with access to Maple St. (Kalamazoo) Y, which has a sauna, steam room, and hot tub. Friendly and helpful front office staff. Easy to book classes with their app. Childcare options are available while parents are busy, as well as extensive options for children's classes and camps. 4/5 stars because they lack the sauna, steam, and hot tub that Maple street has, but again, you have access to that with membership.

Do not put your kids in camp here. Is it cheap babysitting in the summer? Sure. But it's not organized and I'd rather send my camper elsewhere where the communication is better and they at least pretend to care about inclusivity.
We registered for two different summer camps and regret it. The staff are very disinterested in what they are doing. Every time we walk in the front desk staff is either telling us something different about how we sign in or they don't even acknowledge you. Apparently you're supposed to get a card to scan in and the first 2 days of camp no one gave us one and on the third day someone snapped at us for not following the rules. What rules? How about you put in your email that we will get a card to scan in and out of camp? The camp director sent a brief reminder/ welcome /info email for one camp, but not the other. I emailed separate times with questions and never received a reply. The free time play at the beginning of the camp is designed so you walk in, pick up a ball and start playing. That's great for kids who are confident and know other kids in the class. I watched my nephew stand there by himself for 15 minutes before I went down there and encouraged him to play with the other kids. Camp counselors were down there and could have easily invited him to play. Finally, there was no email letting us know that Tuesdays/Thursdays for camp are designated swim days and that towels/bathing suits would need to be brought to camp. I'm thankful the staff found something for him to wear in the post and found, but also just very frustrated with the lack of consistency and communication from the staff here. Overall, I'd suggest finding another camp where the staff aren't high school students or disinterested, miserable adults.

The staff is amazing, honestly love going there and I think it's a great place to hold membership. But again the staff is absolutely amazing.
