I started out with 0 experience in swimming. The class was paced a little faster than I had hoped for. I practiced for a few hours on my own and I was confidently swimming and floating after the first week. I didn't expect to be able to do both after only 1 week. There were quite a few people who had basic swimming skills. I felt a little pressured to get swimming down. The time of day was perfect for a swim class because the sun wasn't as hot. I was a little uncomfortable learning so many new things when I expected it to be a slow paced class. Overall it helped because I am able to swim. I plan to take more private lessons with Nathan in the future to work on my technique. I am happy with the success I found with swimming. I wish they offered the adult class in the morning as well. If you are an adult learning to swim this is the perfect place to take swimming lessons.

I love this YMCA for their pickleball community! My husband and I have been playing there for almost a year, and we will continue to go almost daily. I do wish they had the full 2 hours for child watch all year round, and that they updated the schedules to reflect changes better. Otherwise they are amazing and they do try their best to keep a happy and healthy environment for children and adults! I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they express for my family daily.

I love that lessons are 4 days a week. Repetition is key to learning. I love how the instructors make it a point to give feedback to every parent after every class. They really try hard to help the kids improve in what they are struggling in. Javaun (I think I spelled that correctly) is her swim instructor and he’s been great. I have seen a great improvement in my daughter after only 2 full weeks. This has been one of my favorite places for swim instructions.

"My wife and I absolutely love the Waxahachie YMCA! As active older adults, we appreciate the fantastic fitness classes designed just for us. The instructors are not only skilled but also bring great energy and fun to every session. We’ve also enjoyed getting to know the other regulars—it’s a wonderful community. The front desk staff is always welcoming and helpful, making every visit a pleasure. And to top it off, the pickleball program is a blast!

We’re also excited about the YMCA’s commitment to growth, with an active program to expand both indoor and outdoor facilities. It’s great to be part of such a thriving organization! This summer, we’re especially looking forward to their excellent water aerobics program. The Waxahachie YMCA is truly another gem in our wonderful town!"

Our son had quite the fear of water on his face and scared to jump in the pool (had fallen into a pool when he was a baby). Brock and Scarlet were his instructors, but Brock really went above and beyond to help him overcome his fears and was SO patient with him. Although he is still not comfortable with jumping in, he did learn to swim and float, and even puts his face in the water occasionally! He even snorkeled while on vacation!! We definitely would like to have Brock again for lessons next time!

I've been a member of various YMCA facilities and numerous gyms throughout the country. This is a nice YMCA with very friendly and helpful staff. It is clean, and provides childcare at certain hours. It also offers organized sports for kids, such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, flag football, karate, etc., but those activities cost extra.

It has a nice, full-length indoor basketball court, but it is often being used for organized games, including kids' volleyball. It also has two indoor racketball courts.

However, Waxahachie seems to have outgrown this particular YMCA, which appears to have been built when the town was much smaller. Recent years have seen an explosion in growth, and Waxahachie is no longer the small little town it once was. As a result, this YMCA is now a bit small and often gets very crowded. The free weight room is relatively small with only one squat rack and one bench press station. So during peak hours, the comparatively small free weight room gets packed and you often have to wait. To compound the problem, the hours are not as long compared to other gyms which stay open much later. For instance, this YMCA closes at 6 pm on Fridays, right around the time when most people are finishing their daily work shift. I'm guessing this might be due to a staffing issue as many places are hurting for staff.

It has plenty of cardio equipment, such as treadmills and stationary bikes and ellipticals. It also has a relatively small weight machine room separate from the free weight room. It includes two separate showers/bathrooms/lockers for each gender, which is nice.

The outdoor pool is nice and is 25 yards with various lanes and a deep end, but no diving board. It does have diving blocks for summer league swim meets, though. However, the pool is open only during the summer months. Much of the pool is often used up with scheduled classes or for swim team practice. There is sometimes one lane open for lap swimming, though.

All in all, it's a good YMCA with great staff, but the explosive population growth in Waxahachie has resulted in serious overcrowding at this gym during peak hours. Unfortunately, Waxahachie doesn't have very many other family-friendly fitness facilities to choose from. So if the population growth trend continues, this particular YMCA will continue to experience growing pains.

Would have given ZERO stars but It wouldn't let me. My daughter dropped two Pandora bracelets out of her gym bag while visiting this establishment during Christmas break. When she called (on a Saturday) she was informed that they were turned into the front desk. We called back on Monday and we were told that they were gone and couldn't be found. After a week we called back and finally talked to the Executive Director and he didn't know what happened to them. He informed us that he was doing an internal investigation and would let us know. We never found out what happened to the bracelets. I emailed the Executive Director on February 7, 2024, and haven't received anything back from him. I also called and left voicemails and have not received any call back from him. I guess I will have to talk to someone higher than him to get answers as to how they let a staff member steal these bracelets.

Best place for family swimming! As a former lifeguard I very much appreciate the lengths they go to ensuring safety. Each kid must take a swim test every visit. Not only is it great practice, it’s also a wonderful idea. Even strong swimmers are, at times, tired and need to stay out of deep water! Love this practice! The pool is always well chlorinated and we’ve swam at this pool weekly and never gotten sick. I also love the game truck that comes on sundays! The staff is friendly and facility clean. Great job Y!
