The staff was awesome, the food could have been better, I was there for ten days. The rehabilitation staff was awesome , came every day to see if I was ready for therapy and also helped me get ready , I broke my hip and was sent there for therapy. If the staff didn't answer your buzzer there's a very good reason. Great people, and they were there when I needed them mentally also, took care of my bandages every day and when I felt like I needed it to be looked at. Thank you

We have lived in the Independent Living Apartments in the Village of East Harbor for four years now. We can't imagine living any other place. Staff treat all residents as they would family. There are no grumpy employees and all are qualified, considerate and caring. We are kept busy with many fun activities, excursions and celebrations. We could not imagine living anywhere else and be able to feel so loved and joyous.

Somehow, The Village of East Harbor managed to get my first post removed from Google Reviews. I had included graphic pictures of the neglect. After speaking with Google, I was advised to describe the neglect instead of posting pictures.ā€ FYI Village of East Harbor. If this Review gets taken down, I will go to the local newspapers with the pictures and a full write up on the neglect, I will not be silenced about your abuse!ā€

This place is HORRIBLE! They do not care about the residents in their care. My mom was in long-term care here, and they neglected basic hygiene for months, including not washing her face, dentures, or hair. They seem to only care about keeping beds filled to collect money, causing harm through their neglect. Avoid this place at all costs.
My mother’s hair became so severely infected from lack of washing that it turned red and was filled with sores. When we attempted to comb it, chunks of her skin came off along with her hair. The infection was so severe that the scalp was raw and oozing.

Her dentures were in an appalling state, crusted with layers of old food. The build-up was so thick that the dentures were barely visible, and the stench was overwhelming, causing nausea. When I showed these dentures to the manager, laying them on her desk, she was visibly shocked and admitted that this was unacceptable, yet no improvements were made, and the neglect continued.

One night, my mother fell while trying to get into bed, breaking her arm in the process. She was left on the floor for an unknown amount of time before anyone found her. When they did, she was lying with her broken arm twisted behind her back, in immense pain. Rather than seeking immediate medical attention, they simply put her back in bed. It was 12 hours later when I received a call asking if they should have a doctor look at her. I insisted they send her to the hospital immediately. It took a total of 15 hours before any professional seen her confirmed that she had indeed broken her arm. At the hospital, the staff was alarmed by my mother’s condition. They asked if she had a skin condition because her face was crusted with layers of dead skin, red and inflamed from months of not being washed. The accumulation of dead skin cells formed thick, crusty patches, making her face appear scaly and raw in places.

The hospital staff's shock and immediate concern highlighted the extreme neglect she suffered, as regular washing and basic skincare would have prevented such deterioration. This condition was purely due to neglect, not an underlying condition, underscoring the inhumane care at the facility.
The neglect was so severe that Human Rights Watch Group asked to use my photos for a pamphlet on nursing home neglect. I have documented all of this with photos, showing the extent of the abuse and negligence my mother suffered.

This facility is managed by a DON who is unkind judgmental and rude
She protects her staff and does not listen or respond to any complaints or criticism.
My relative was admitted for rehab after a botched surgery. Only two nurses were attentive and kind. They DO NOT answer the call light and instead sit in the nooks and crannies of the hallway on their cellphones….or chatting with each other. I was told it’s just because they haveā€call light fatigueā€ REALLY?
My relative was the victim of harsh handling and physical abuse. The aide pushed him so hard …he thought his rib was broken. They made a report and took an X-ray but never told us the results until we said we were leaving and going elsewear. The DON refused to look at me when she came to the room to discuss the incident. She was out of line and rude. I would NEVER EVER return to this facility or recommend that anyone go there.
I suppose the patients who have terminal illnesses or dementia or Alzheimer’s don’t complain….because they can’t….they are all lined up in the hallways mumbling and crying and they are unkept and dirty. It is shameful.

I would first like to say that I am aware that everybody has different experiences with facilities like this; however, I would like to say that my experience with The Villages of East Harbor was amazing. My mother was admitted to the rehabilitation unit for a brief stay. She had a decline in her physical and cognitive status over the past few years. She was then transferred to the skilled nursing unit. The care and compassion shown to both her and my family from the staff was incredible. They treated my mother with such care, compassion, and dignity throughout her stay. She unfortunately passed away at 91 years old. Both the staff and the hospice nurses were fantastic. They not only cared for my mother, but also cared for us and made her passing as easy on us as possible. They stayed in the room with us and cried with us when she passed. Interestingly, during the time my mother was there, my mother-in-law was also admitted for a short rehab stay. They treated her with such care as well. I would highly recommend The Villages of East Harbor.

I saw appalling pictures of my friends mom when she was at this facility. She had sores all over head and oozing pus and hair fell out when brushed because they didn't wash her hair. She had layers of dead skin on her face and ears and smelled disgusting. Her dentures were layered with old food that you could barley see the teeth. It was brought to managements attention and nothing changed! She had fallen out of bed and left there for hours befire they got her back into bed. And then didn't notify family until 12 hrs later. And asked if she should get medical attention because she may have broken her arm from the fall. I had to give a one star for this review. But I would have given a zero if allowed to.
Please don't send your family members to this place!

Not even 1 star. DO NOT GO TO EAST HARBOR FOR REHAB. This place almost literally killed my mother. She had catheter removed and bladder scanned 8 hours later. She called RN told her she was in very bad pain. RN said bladder was not full. She called us and we had someone else scan who verified her bladder was so full it was ready to burst! Physical Therapy was terrible. She broke her hip and they had her sitting in a circle, hitting a balloon with a stick. She was able to walk with a walker, but at 91 years old, she had to do this on her own. PT did not have her walking or doing steps. One PT caused her to fall and injure her shoulder. We finally took her out and she did much better at home. Too many things to list, but please do not send your loved one to this place. Medical assistant staff at night were very nice, but medical care overall was DANGEROUS.

Please do not put your loved ones in The Village of East Harbor. This facility, specifically the memory care unit, severely put my grandmother’s life at risk. The facility called us saying my grandmother was found unresponsive, and they were calling the ambulance. A few minutes later, they called back saying ā€œnever mind, she is responsive now. We think she was unresponsive due to the position she was in (slumped over in her wheelchair).ā€ My father requested she be put in bed, and some of the family went up to check on her. We found her still in her wheelchair and still unresponsive. She was unable to open her eyes, she couldn’t speak, etc. Had we just taken their word for it, my grandma would have never been medically treated.

Additionally, my grandmother waited over an hour of several occasions when she hit her button to use the bathroom. Then she ended up being put in room where the button didn’t work, and she had no way to request for assistance. We met maybe two people that actually cared for her and took good care of her.

P.S. be warned, when they say they have nurses on staff during evening hours, they do not. It is aids only, and if you want your loved one to be seen by the doctor, forget about it.
