My overall experience with this place has been a cluster of feelings, there a fair amount of nice staff and students but overall this place is is best described as a typical High School.

Trades:
I can't say much for other trades because I was in OA but I think hard trades and CNA are the only trades worth doing in this place. OA was useless and only taught basic computer skills, I was able to complete it in less than 2 months BUT once you complete around 60% of the trade you can shadow the IT on center, they are the only reason why my review has 3 stars and why I stuck here for so long.

Food/Beverages:
The cafeteria isn't that far away from the dorms, it's a nice little walk but the main problem is when it rains because it's just walking in the open with the main road being a dirt path. The food is ok, a lot of students think it's terrible but it's free food so you can't really complain that much, same with the drinks they have soda and juices that sometimes don't work but again it's free so there's that. As for ordering food outside using things such as doordash, the center allows you to use it as long as it's after trade and before curfew, just have fun with giving some drivers directions to the security gate

Staff:
As in any work place there are great staff, staff that don't bother you, and the worst people known to man. Johnny the IT guy, Giovanni the IT manager, Christian the maintenance manager, and Edgar OA & CTS director are possibly the best people I've ever met. I've been shadowing Johnny for over 4 months now and so I get to see the good and the bad in places especially staff. There are some staff that are extremely bad at computers which is terrible news for IT because they call us and we have to walk all the way to their office to find out that their computer wasn't even plugged in or that they were trying to turn on the computer by pressing the monitor power button. To make it worse, most of them are required to use a computer everyday especially instructors because they put in attendance digitally.

Students:
Again this place is just a High School, there are people who don't listen and talk back because they can, some students just don't care for the rules and vape around places they're not suppose to. I found a really nice group to hangout with and a lot of people are pretty open to their hobbies, if you like video games chances are you can go down to the game room and see people playing games. Lots of people go to the gym and place soccer or what not. As long as you speak to someone you're bound to find someone to talk to but you really need to find someone to talk to because being lonely in this place is just asking for a miserable time.

Residential:
This place is extremely old so don't expect any fancy dorms. You share a room with 1 roommate but it's connected to a hallway with a bathroom and another room with 2 more people. There's mandatory meetings at 3:45pm and on mondays an extra at 8pm. You have to keep your rooms clean because while you're out during the day, they check your rooms to see if it's clean and up to standard, then give you a score out of 14. If you get below a 12 then you're basically grounded and have to stay in your room after 6pm. There's also chores where you have to clean hallways and they change which rooms every week. Over all very basic structure that people somehow people keep failing. From my experience, my side of the dorm always has 3-8 failed room scores per day which is kind of sad to see because it's literally just cleaning a room.

Shoutout:
Johnny the IT guy is genuinely the best and taught me so much from underwriting houses, building PCs, Changing Tires, he helped look for jobs and options I can do. Honestly he's the only reason why I stuck with this place and without him being here then I would've left the moment I finished OA.

The whole CPP crew because they genuinely cared about you guys and want you to think about your life and what you want to take out of this place. They're all friendly and easy to talk to.

The tour was cool. The opportunities for the kids are endless. A future and many different fields from construction 🚧 to culinary arts.

My daughter is currently there for advanced culinary. Other students pulled my daughter aside knowing confidential information that would, only be in her file and records. The students stated that the residential advisor named Candice was telling other students this information. Let me note, it is extremely confidential, and she has been through trauma due to events that took place in her past and this could also fall under a HIPAA violation. Also, an instructor told my daughter she did not care about her problems and I will update this when I get their name. My daughter volunteered and wanted to go to a job corps and was at the Excelsior Springs Missouri location and had a positive experience graduating in basic culinary and was top of her class. She has nothing but good things to say about the Excelsior Springs location. They selected a few students to go off to advanced culinary school and my daughter was one of them and doesn't feel comfortable at the Treasure Island Job Corps Center due to some staff members and the way they conduct themselves. She is coming home and doesn't wish to continue being at this location. I left a voice message with Suzanne Bear in HR and waiting for a response. Confidential information in your records leaking out to other students and staff is unprofessional and unacceptable.If I contact the United States Department of Labor
U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration Region 6 over this issue I most certainly will if it is not taken care of and investigated at the Treasure Island Job Corps Center.

I went there in the Early 00's. It was open campus minors had a curfew adults stayed out til 12. The food wasn't great but it was no where to prison food. Started going down hill when the new guy took over he shaved head and he black. Broke my jaw giving blood in the gym , he damn near kicked me out. What I'm trying to say is if you need a chance to get away from home Do it. It gives you a H.S. diploma. Food money and clothing vouchers. Plus I made Life Long friends.

Bruh it’s not a bad of a place people are just not gratefully ain’t nobody giving you shi for free so take it and thx god we get to eat another day , it be the kids who still think this high school who are annoying And ruin stuff for the rest of us manly the minors seance they don’t know how to act, they got hella dumb rules to 🤦‍♂️and some staff feel like there better or idk what it is cuz they be on some dumb shi . I also heard they don’t pay what they promised you when you end your career .

Let me start off with the Pros in jobcorps. I’ll say it’s a good place for people to get experience in any trade and to get their high school and license. Staff workers are some what ok but the ones that are very nice and they really take care of you if you need anything like Johnny the IT worker so anyone who is doing computer trade you guys will meet him. All the maintenance like Christian and Torris ( sorry if I spelled your name wrong ) and the rest are all nice. The RA in 4 West Ms Dian I’m grateful and thankful for her because she always had my back and helped me when I needed it and Mr Patrick Lee he always helped me in math class when I needed him. Ms Mitchell who was my counselor she always helped me out and gave me a lot of advices. I thank you all for giving me great experience in jobcorps and if it wasn’t for you guys I would of had a bad experience. The Cons are the food it’s ok like almost everyday it’s the same food from previous week. You start to get tired of it. Closed campus so you can’t leave unless you have to go to work or have a appointment. The clinic was ok just one time I was really sick and I went to tell them I had Covid symptoms which they told me they couldn’t do much and just gave me pills and sent me to class until I got home and did a Covid test and came out positive for Covid. There always something happening in jobcorps like students misbehaving. Staff that sometimes act they are better then others. The buildings is really old so sometimes things don’t really work and it takes time to fix them. Some security not all I feel like they are very rude and don’t really respect people. Ted is a great security and he always respects people so the people I call out are the ones I believe they need a raise. I’m give it a 2 stars just because the people I have met and made it great but the rest was just bad. If anyone thinking to join if you don’t have a place to stay and want to really get things done and get experience I’ll say this is a good place but if you didn’t something better then I personally would chose the other option

Use to go here I will say I wouldn't let your kid(s) go here due to not only assault but other prospects there was lots of accusing some staff was okay but others such as the main "president" she picks favorites went in once an she believed this one girl whom was causing trouble I reported it multiple times and nothing was happening

I’m homeless , and they basically just wasted my time cause they don’t care to do intake, and actually get to know your situation. Got turned away cause I have dogs and they have the nerve to say, “what about your dogs” and “no one will take care of them for you?” Like are you serious !? These are my babies. No one tells you to put a toddler up for adoption after 3 years. And no I’m homeless no one cares to help , even if it’s for my dogs. And I don’t trust anyone with my pets, especially having “family” threaten to steal them and give them away. I need help , just don’t come here, they are no help. Especially if you have pets. Seems like this program is for people who don’t want to pay for training for a certification for a job. Rather than helping those who can’t. Security there is extremely rude, ItS gOvErMeNt PrOpErTy, and I have a dod card to get on military posts but yet I can’t get on this property that isn’t even anything in compare of a military post. What a joke.
