I have ridden Tour de Palm Springs twice. Last year I avoided it due to heavy rains/flooding. In the years prior to last year the event was fabulous - good food, high school bands, and event starts and finishes downtown which is a plus. This year the event coordinators basically tricked anyone who signed up in 2024 through December. I was one of those who signed up in late December. Yesterday I looked and the route had been changed to an "out and back" basically eliminating the entire scenic route on the north side of Coachella. The route now mostly goes through city streets. I asked the coordinator why the route was changed AFTER most of the participants had signed up, and got a pathetic answer. This borders on fraud - for a century ride the advertised route is vital, and it is dishonest to change it after most have signed up and paid more than $100 each to ride.

I hate this race so much as a local where the race takes place. They cause so many potential accidents and actual accidents. The bicyclists will take up to both lanes not allowing for the locals daily commute. They ride through our neighborhood and we don’t even benefit from the headache. City of Palm Springs should be paying to repave our roads

Route not as promised. Food not as promised. Aid stations out of food. Registration person said I already got my number and said I could have 2 numbers, huh? Check IDs if you can't keep track. Sad experience, AVOID.

We really enjoy this ride. This is by far the easiest Century ride we have ridden. Great views and nice route.
One request to make it the “Perfect ride!”
Have a big medal waiting for the riders at the finish line. Do away with the T-shirts, or make them available for purchase instead 😉

This ride was my first 100 mile ride in 2011. The course is great for any one making this their first 100. Last year we did the 50 mile course and with the winds I am glad I decided not to do the 100 miles. There is A LOT of people but once you get out there you start to spread out and the ride doesn't seem to be so packed of course until you hit a SAG and then you realize how many people are actually out there with you. The riders on the ride were helpful, supportive and fun to be around. The volunteers were always happy and helpful, especially at the 2012 SAG Stops. Getting back into town both years it seemed the local residents were very frustrated with the amount of riders in their town and due to some riders with no regards to the laws of the road. So it made many drivers mad at all of the riders which made for a scary ride at times. But there was quite a bit of locals out during the whole ride cheering us on. We have about 20 to 25 riders in our group and this ride is the one that everyone seems to enjoy. We all will be back in 2013.

Tips:
1. There is a lot of people on this ride, just be patient.
2. Get there early so you can find parking if you need to drive there in the morning.
3. Coming back into town there is a lot of signals and drivers that don't care that you have rode 40 or 80 miles already. So be aware and careful out there.
4. Make friends when you are out there. I met so many great people on this ride.
5. Get back before dark! They start taking everything down and you won't be able to find your way back if you don't know the area.
