Nobody noticed me there until two months later. I never had a case worker or saw them until it was time to get kicked out. I worked a full time job before and while I was there. I think 90 days isnt long enough. Its hard to find a home. People want a squeaky clean record. That's just not realistic in 2024 in ananchorage. They wanted me to go rent something that I couldn't afford. They said alaska housing would help as soon as I moved. No it took them over a yr. So if I would of done that I would of eneded up being homeless again. I also think it's ridiculous your kids can't stay in the room alone. I understand why the little ones can't but almost adult children is ridiculous.

The worker who we met was "short" "rude" and basically ignored our attempts to engage with him. We are a family who has paid over 22K since November to hotels to keep a roof over our heads, we work 3 jobs between a two-parent household, and we came for help for food and to inquire about other services... we left with some peaches and a handful of canned goods. Very disappointing. Too bad the guy who's halfway decent, Chester, was not working.

Because of unforeseen circumstances we ended up at the McKinell house on Tuesday! Since we got here we have been treated with the upmost respect. Our case worker is amazing and all the staff are really friendly and helpful. I don’t feel like people are looking down on us because of our situation and I feel like this is our best bet to getting the help my family needs and getting back on our own two feet. If you are a homeless family or a homeless father with kids and need help, I definitely recommend the McKinell house!

My experience with my family it was different challenging but a great experience everybody there at Mckinnel was very supportive The staff, the directors, the cooks, were wonderful and I thank you All so much, and so wonderful and when it’s emergency they truly pull for your family and I thank God and truly grateful for that. So I would always donate and be thankful for that and the rules they have are the correct rules And not bad at all,
I would recommend McKinnel any day. They were great. We need more shelter like Mckinnel.

Some workers need about to warm up to some have to deal with how hey are as a person very tight eye accept when it comes to your food that can be stolen, had a few red flags that people got access to my room other than workers but don't have proof. Basically if you get off on the wrong foot with whom ever you get it bad while their. I didn't have it as bad as what I had heard. Other than that it's a place to save up for rent. You do what you do type of place.
