I have been a volunteer at Milo at their Point Richmond location for the last three years. I come in once to twice a week for a few hours to interact with and walk the dogs. The employees are always helpful, thankful as well as communicative on protocols and what's happening with all of the dogs. It's clear that Milo is run by people who are passionate about what they do, dedicated and work hard. Their tireless efforts help connect the dogs with appropriate foster or adoption homes that will help each dog thrive. I also adopted my dog from them a few years ago and found continued support throughout the process.

We adopted our gorgeous boy, Sprout, from Milo last month and have received excellent support during the adoption and with health related questions since. The staff and volunteers provide amazing care and attention to the animals at Milo, and go above and beyond to save as many pets as possible from the kill shelters. It's a tough time in animal rescue at the moment, but these folks do it all with a smile! Big thanks to Nicole and her team for all she did for Sprout and continues to do for all the other pups and kitties out there ❤️

I feel compelled to share my experience at this rescue for the safety of both the animals and potential adopters. From the moment I stepped in, the overwhelming smell of feces and urine was concerning. The staff appeared unorganized, frantic, and at times, made me feel like I was inconveniencing them simply by asking for assistance or guidance.

Many of the dogs had warning labels, and a significant number were visibly sick. The conditions of the food, treats, and supplies were unsanitary and highly disorganized, which raised serious concerns about the level of care these animals are receiving.

After doing some deeper research, I discovered that a large number of the dogs are brought in from a shelter in Bakersfield, where adoption fees range from $50 to $150--yet here, they are being rehomed at an exorbitant $750. This pricing seems more opportunistic than mission-driven, and I did not get the impression that placing these pets in loving homes was a priority.

To make matters worse, the manager or founder was walking around barking orders but made no effort to engage with potential adopters. Her demeanor was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which only reinforced my negative impression of the operation.

Overall, this rescue does not seem to prioritize the well-being of these animals or the adoption experience. I strongly advise against supporting this place until serious improvements are made.

Everyone at Milo, staff and volunteers, is truly amazing. They work incredibly hard 24 hours a day and care so much about every single animal. They want their adoptions to work out for both the animals and the people so they try hard to make good matches. Their criteria can seem strict but they've seen it all and know what will be a good match and what might be destined to not work out. They have to make the really hard decisions about which animals to take out of shelters with long euthanasia lists - decisions that would crush most of us - and work tirelessly to find space in their shelter or with fosters for those animals so they can save even more. I've both adopted and fostered with them and I will again. Go Milo!

I’ve been fostering with Milo for many years now and have had nothing but a good experience. They truly care about the animals and make significant efforts on matching me with the right foster (I have kids, cats, and another dog). In regard to the reviews that mention a tiny space and stench, I have also fostered with an Oakland based rescue and they have a tiny space that also smells. Rescues are doing there absolute best to manage the shelter crisis in CA and that does mean that animals live (and go to the bathroom) in kennels. Volunteers are working tirelessly to clean them as soon as possible but it’s never ending. I’d encourage every person that has written a bad review to foster. That way the animals will have plenty of attention in your clean home.

Adopted our pup @ Milo foundation, only to be told by the owner and staff that the foster mom decided to give the pup to another family After we adopted the pet.

Would not recommend Milo foundation.
If you have a choice, adopt elsewhere.
$600 adoption fee is 3X of other non profits shelters.

So glad I found this adoption center. I looked for another dog and told them what I was looking for and then I had someone recommended me a different Dog named Annabelle that would meet my needs and level of experience better and we went and met her and we fell in Love. To this day, I'm grateful to have her in our lives and from the rocky start her and I had and now we are inseparable. The Training we do is amazing and I now have her fully off-leash.

Basically they are very apathetic and arrogant. They give me the most terrible experiences in my life. Nightmare! I didn’t see any sign they love the animals. I did appreciate they took back my cats after we made the hard decision. But when I tried to know what happened to my cat after he died two weeks later there, they just accused me of being given up my cats and caused his death. I don’t want to blame anyone and just want to know what happened. I already feel so sad and guilty to my cats. While they just criticized me and repeatedly said I should appreciate them, which made me feel that They don’t care about the animals at all. Just like the other reviews mentioned here.
