I volunteer with this organization and have benefited from it as much as the resident horses have. I have learned improved feeding, handling and care techniques and feel well supported in my role. The highest accolade I can give is that when a friend had to rehome her own horse, I recommended reaching out to SERRA without hesitation. The horses aren't just well cared for at a beautiful facility with talented staff, they are adopted our very carefully and are always welcomed back for any reason in the future. This is a rarity in the horse world and SERRA stands out as a truly excellent, well managed equine rescue.

On October 9th, 2017, I lost my horse in the Cascade Fire in Yuba County. He was was my companion for 23 years. To try and cope with this hole in my life, I went searching online for another horse. I found several wonderful horses with SERRA and emailed them. Marjorie wrote back and was like an angel who understood everything I was going through. She got me through weeks of tears, anger, and alot of self blame until one day I was able to make the drive to visit the facility. What a positive experience! Marjorie introduced me to everyone and took me on a tour explaining the background of every horse. The facility is beautiful, the staff are warm, kind and very knowledgable about horses, and the horses are getting impeccable care. I have much to do to get my property "horse ready" again, but I would be honored to home any one of their wonderful equines.

What a great organization, really making a difference in the lives of neglected and abused horses and the horse lovers who care for them. A little ways off the Lakeville Hwy. in Petaluma, you will find a large horse ranch where horses are rehabilitated and adopted out to caring families. Go visit and support them if you can.

Good horses but the owners are not consistent and can be unprofessional. Poor communication and inconsistent network for volunteers and boarders. Website seems out of date.
