Having lived at Sunny Hills from the better half of my childhood I can tell you how much of a s**t hole it is. Criminally under staffed and mismanaged. It’s their policy to put kids on drugs because it’s their belief that if you’re there there’s something wrong with you and medicating is how they deal with children. How my therapist managed to say that honestly and with a straight face was shocking to say the least. Seen some good kids get ruined by this place because of it. Did I mention how understaffed SHS is? Just about every other day you’d see the cops show up because staff couldn’t handle it. I saw a kid get beat by another kid within a inch of his life with a baseball bat because “policy say 2 staff are needed to intervene in such situations” and that 1 staff just stood there and watched. They may call them “group homes” now, but they’re every bit the orphanages they once were, just with a few extra useless laws stacked on top.

They have various programs for young people and at the school they really take the time to work with the kids. If your child has struggled in school behaviorally and emotionally this is a good alternative.
