Would not recommend to mothers , my 1 year old was crying and upset and the owner said she was sick of hearing the crying and told me it is time for us to go , was there under 7 minutes !! she said my one year old crying is unacceptable behavior . Absolutely disgusting !! Do not go unless you want to deal with mean rude older ladies !!!!

Fell on hard times and was informed from a friend of this place. Yes, they do good and I am grateful for places that help the community. That said, It is critical that folks in need are able to find help from places such a this one that they can feel welcome, treated with dignity and empathy, not dehumanized. It only takes one person's/volunteer's bad behavior to do the latter. I myself have volunteered in other places similar to this one. I understand that there are frustrations, but, the rewards of being a part of the human race outweighs the negative. The being yelled at is true, I've witnessed this. There are people there that are there to truly help and bless them. But, there is more than one that unfortunately do more harm than good.
I have read the responses to the criticisms.
Why the push back? Why not grace? Isn't grace the objective?

This place is so wonderful. The people who volunteer here are so nice and very helpful. There is a food pantry that gives away breads and desserts, mostly. There are a lot of clothes and shoes available, although most of the clothing items and shoes are women's and children's items. But they are in great condition. The best part is that all of these items are free! And the clothes come in all designs and sizes. There's other merchandise in the store for sale at a great price, such as basic housewares, purses, jeans, and formal dresses. If you find yourself needing clothes and food while on a tight budget, this place is a godsend. They also accept donations which is a good tax write off.

This place is AMAZING!! The reviews regarding discrimination, mistreatment of customers, and more are ridiculous. Would you like your free food, clothes, gas cards, and the many other services they offer depending on funding to be gift wrapped and the extremely busy staff to kiss your rear end? My God, I can’t get good service at establishments that I pay for and usually tip very well.

The staff can come off dry or blunt, but they are doing incredibly generous and hard to find services without any in depth screening, and based on the assumption people who really need it get it. The workers are busy, underpaid and if you don’t like the attitude or the “discrimination” go wait in line for hours for a once a month food pick up with bread, some canned goods and a milk. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I will say I think some are greedy and abuse the services, but not anything like it in Johnson County. Always something to complain about rather than be grateful. Some are never able to appreciate something until it is gone, so let’s hope this stays around for those of us who are beyond thankful and don’t have to find flaws in everything.

Perfect place if u want to be yelled at and talked to in the rudest way. I seriously saw one of the employees hit somebody. This was a great concept but not a friendly environment at all. And the cashier Jan needs a a deluxe hug shes mean nasty and rude she needs another position and some training and coaching.

Altho u can go here for assistance like free clothing, bread, & some other foods, the ladies that work there must have to work with some ungrateful people to treat people the way they do sometimes. I've been snapped at by a couple of them because i didn't know their rules. I wasn't trying to steal. I wasn't trying to be ungrateful. I wasn't trying to be rude. I just didn't know & just needed some kind guidance. But they've worked there too long & their hearts have hardened by all their assumptions that EVERYONE is ungrateful for what they're doing for us. I for one, am EXTREMELY grateful for the work they do. I think they should bring in a fresher crew.

Edit: I'm changing my star review because they have gotten so much better in their service to people. I imagine people tend to get "grabby" & take more than their share & that's why these lovely ladies & now gentlemen have to be a lil more firm with us public - so i better understand now & that's why I'm changing my star rating. But they seem to be more friendly too. Or it might just be my new understanding of them. Idk.🤷‍♀️

I donate to them frequently. They are mostly volunteers and absolutely wonderful people. They serve differently abeled people, people with low income, big families and more. I ask that people DON'T take advantage of their services- they are not a business like Savers. They are volunteers working to help people in serious need.

This is a great community benefit for anyone who has a need for bread and other foods. There are no income restrictions and usually has many choices for breads for your family and neighbors. Donations are welcome but not required or expected. I use this resource for meals I provide for Celebrate Recovery meetings when we provide free meals the first Friday of the month at Lenexa Baptist Church. Thank you to the volunteers who are helping run this great community resource. And thank you to the vendors who provide us with the food.
