So I lived here about 15 yrs ago with my children.
It wasn’t always easy, but we follow the rules set there, was diligent in looking for work and housing. Didn’t cause any troubles, didn’t complain and was polite to everyone including the staff. Within 3 months of living there, we were offered housing.
This place taken us in when no one else would. I never had to be on the streets with my children. We were fed three meals per day and had our very own room for privacy. For those who are complaining, stop it and do better for yourself and follow the rules and you’ll be out of there and into your own home. I don’t know how it is now but back then, housing was offered only to those doing what is required, aka, being diligent in looking for work, looking for housing even if you did have all the money saved up for it, still continue looking because this shows EFFORT of you getting out of this situation. I wish everyone the best in life.

Not a bad place to work 7/10 …. I was terminated due to false allegations but god work I was able to close with a nice law suit and settlement from unemployment all I can say is the employees need to learn how to treat people especially people who show up and do there job the director she’s good and helpful to residents but the people who work under her also they ganged up to get me out to only have to pay me out 😌😂🤞🎁so I guess what I went through was worth it …. There are some things that need improvement but god works! Cynthia is by far the worst representation of the company they don’t aim to hire people with big degrees and real knowledge so several roles are open which makes the process even longer with helping people move I think it’s just for a check but To each o I wish this this company nothing but the best but now my next goal is to buy it

Me and my wife have been homeless for 2 years and we have 2 children and been on the waiting list for 2 years now to get in. Idk if it's just the economy but back 5 years ago we could have gotten in within a month but plans changed and we ended up getting an apartment. I just gave it 4 stars because it's not really there fault it's this economy maybe things will start changing.

I stayed there for four months back in 2010. I was very greatful that they gave my family our own room with a lock on the door but the stay was very traumatic for me. Most of the staff were beautiful people. I loved them. But there was a couple who I couldn't stand that played favoritism with the families. When I got there I was unemployed. After a month and a half I attended one of the job fairs and landed a job. My first check wasn't a full check, barely over $100, and I was chastised for spending $30 on my sons shoes. In all, in two months, I saved $1500. I got NO help from them that most of the other residents received and I believe it was because I got into an argument with the housing coordinator. I donated my WIC to the dining room to never see any of it put out. Saw people bring food in to see them never bring it out for the residents. But I do remember there being greenish hot dogs. I was depressed there. They used to try to get me to eat ( I was pregnant) but the food was greasy and made me nauseous. I ended up losing 15 pounds. They kept my family warm for 4 months and I will forever be greatful for that though. I hope they've improved other aspects.

Great place in Metro Detroit that focuses on keeping houseless & displaced families together for as long as they need to get on their feet. This organization is run very well and is a necessary and vital part of the Detroit community.

This statement is from my experience when we were living at this shelter about 9 yrs ago. Though the staff was very kind, they we're watching everything you do, therefore, you go into the shelter, not cause any problems, keep a close eye on your children, making sure they're not causing any problems, listen to the staff, job hunt several times per week, house hunt though u may not have the money, still do it to show effort, keep your room clean at all times, be polite towards others-the staff AND clients as yourself, most likely will receive a wonderful gift from the shelter, Sec 8! They'll have you meet w them and tell you in private. You must not tell anyone else so not to cause a riff, if they're doing what is required, it'll be offered to that person as well eventually. Just mind your own business and yet be kind to others, and things will work out well for you! I and children are a real recipient of this offer! I was able to complete college because of Wayne Family Services.
