Dear Board of Supervisor and Elected Officials,
I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out to express my deep concern regarding the alarming reports of elderly abuse and negligence at Pacific Pointe Independent Living, located at 171 4th Ave, Chula Vista, CA 91910.
It has been brought to my attention that both the management and owner of this facility have been implicated in egregious acts of abuse and deception towards the senior residents. These acts include but are not limited to infestations of bedbugs, rats, feces and cockroaches, as well as poor living conditions that compromise the health and safety of the residents.
Furthermore, it is deeply troubling to learn that some of the seniors residing at Pacific Pointe Independent Living are war veterans, individuals who have served our country with honor and deserve the utmost respect and care in their later years. Equally concerning is the reported termination of employees who attempted to advocate for disabled seniors unable to leave their beds, resulting in their neglect and starvation. This is a blatant violation of the trust placed in the facility's staff, especially considering the promises made on their website regarding three full meals for residents.
Additionally, it has been brought to my attention that the Director of this facility, Burnell Jackson and Mike Shettler, has reportedly engaged in bullying behavior towards a mentally ill senior resident, exacerbating an already vulnerable situation. In light of these disturbing revelations, I urge you to initiate a thorough and impartial investigation into the practices and conduct of Pacific Pointe Independent Living.
I implore the San Diego Board of Supervisors, the Mayor, and other elected officials to lend their support and resources to this investigation to ensure that justice is served and the well-being of the residents is safeguarded. Our elderly population, especially those who have served our nation, deserve to live out their golden years with dignity, respect, and compassionate care. It is imperative that swift and decisive action is taken to address the systemic issues at Pacific Pointe Independent Living and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I eagerly await your response and actions in addressing these serious concerns.

I’m sorry to say that this place treats their employees like trash on the street!. I think they got rid of their best servers. Ugh Treats the elders like their children! So overpriced. No true real freedom! AND constantly having pest issues. I am never coming back.

We needed a place for my brother-in-law who has quickly deteriorated in health. However, he's still at the point where he is stubbornly self sufficient. If you or your loved one is still self-sufficient this is the place.
The rent includes three meals a day, utilities, and a shuttle service. In San Diego, that pretty hard to beat. The staff is really personable and go out of their way to be helpful. They even empty your trash and wash your linens once per week.
Of course, there's the office staff as well. Kami has been our point of contact since day one, and she has really gone above and beyond to make sure, at least in our case, that my brother-in-law is ok. I can't express enough just how much we appreciate how sweet and understanding Kami has been about our situation. She's the best. In a world where employees are treated as if they are expendable, I hope they're giving her the benefits, compensation and credit she deserves.
Thank you Kami!

I helped move my good friend into this facility and from day one the experience was grest! No stress for my friend. No stress for me helping. Everyone has been cordial and very welcoming. A great facility with top notch talent at the administrative end! A true diamond in the rough!

My mom resided at this very pleasant and moderately maintained Retirement home. They do get three meals a day served in the dining room on actual china, but the portions are often very small and my mom complained of not being satisfied after each meal. Upper management seems a little judgemental towards family, but overall it's a good value compared to other places and it's a safe place for Mom and Dad.

A relative lives here and I visit often. Great service. Friendly staff. They are always polite to me and have always been to other people when I am there. Last time my Aunt had an issue with her apartment, a badly leaking faucet, their maintenance person was there that day to have it fixed. A+

Management is more concerned with profit over comfort. The food does not provide balanced healthy meals. The kitchen regularly runs out of food at meal times. There is one maintenance man for almost 400 units, needless to say it takes time to get anything repaired. They accept anyone that can pay as residents. Some need to be told moment by moment what they should be doing, others will yell and curse and threaten violence at the most minor slight. The violent ones are threatened with expulsion but nothing ever happens. If I could afford it, I would move in a minute. As it is, I just make sure I have food in my room so I don't have to go hungry. Let this place be your last resort.

Just led a Laughter Yoga Class and had so much fun with the residents. Independent 55 plus apartments in Chula Vista. Management staff live on site. Recently renovated their common living area. Looks good. Good management team.
