My name is Barbara and I was the payee for my granddaughter until recently. I had to intervene for her many times recently and the help I received from one of your employees was outstanding. His name (first name Jason) I don’t know his last name. He sits in the lobby and has his hands full. His job keeps him pretty busy but he always made time to make sure I understood every thing that was needed. This man is a busy man but he has a big heart. I have seen him work with others while waiting my turn. I just wanted to say something good. Your service to the people who need it is outstanding. Thank you on behalf of community who needs help.

So frustrating trying to get ahold of somebody to talk to. They have set up multiple call times with me (without asking me what days/times work) so I have missed those calls because I am at work…. Finally schedule a day and time with them that works for me, and they call earlier than that scheduled time so I missed their call again. If you miss a call, you have to reschedule and if you do call back, it takes forever to get ahold of anybody.

Don’t waste your time.

Poor services, lack of accountability. They absolutely do not want to do their job to help you they make you call them 100 different times to try to figure out what's going on simply to put it rotten rotten services

Threatening, adversarial, combative, shaming, disrespectful, biased, and predudicial! I have been yelled and screamed at by several specialists. They WILL do everything to stall or deny you opportunity even to apply. And no amount of complaining will do anything about it.
But you can call Dana Nessals office or the number for recipient rights to send a formal complaint. If the specialists refuse to help you schedule or reschedule your interview, then threaten those actions I used, and your case worker may just call within 15 minutes.
There is just one person there with any sense, empathy, or know-how of her job. Chances are you won't get her as your case worker
In short, it sucks! Better off looking elsewhere for services.

I tried getting some food stamps and everything else that I could get after getting out of prison, and they denied me. They told me that since I wasn't homeless or since I was getting help from family, they wasn't going to provide me any help. When I was in prison, MDOC told me DHS would help me with everything that I needed. That was all lies. And it sucks. Food is very expensive and I can't help my family back cause these people don't help me.

I have never been in a more friendly and helpful government run place. I have had experience with social services in the past that have made my skin crawl.

I witnessed people being treated with kindness and compassion at the Ottawa County DSS. There was a Spanish speaking family with a daughter who's birthday it was. One of the.employees who was bi-lingual brought her a gift and asked if she liked it. I am just amazing at how seriously they took their jobs and how quickly things moved.
