Had an appointment this morning, and that went well. Received my text prior to the appointment and had my barcode that allowed me to have my spot in queue. My issue is the parking, due to construction there were barely any spots available, took me about 10 to find a spot. What I’m really frustrated with is the parking fee, I was there for 59 mins. Most of that time was looking for parking, waiting in line and waiting for my number to be called. 22.00!!!! For parking is insane. You barely can see the pricing signs. My advice don’t park there, park on the street or get dropped off. Not even the airport charge that much for an 1 hour. I’ve paid less in parking for a Magic game.

After going to the wrong location then having SO much trouble figuring out how to make an appointment to do a name change after marriage, I figured I would let people know what works. You can't schedule an appointment online, you have to call 1-866-331-2254 to schedule through them. At the downtown location, I highly recommend street parking through ParkMobile because its WAY cheaper than the deck. Be sure to fill out an application online before going in (you have 45 days after submitting app to go into the office), and make sure you have all your documents before going to the office (marriage certificate, SS card, govt-issued ID). Just an FYI, for any social security card issue, this place is by APPOINTMENT ONLY!! No matter if you call and they tell you they accept walk-ins. They DON'T! They do not even mention it as you're on line outside nor any of the officers inside. They'll tell you once you get upstairs.
We called last week and they assured us that walk-ins were accepted. Waste of time and money (parking). So to not waste your time, please make an appointment.

So I filled out everything online to do a name change and set up a scheduled appointment for today. I was traveling over an hour to get to this location. So when I get there I realize there is no free public parking anywhere near this building. When you're turning into the building's parking lot there's only enough room for one person to be at the credit card machine to in order to get onto the property. So if you're there when it's busy or early in the morning you will have to be sitting on the street waiting to use the credit card machine because it is $10 an hour minimum 2 hours which means you will be spending $20 to park or more if it takes over 2 hours. So when I pulled up for my appointment there was someone already at the machine and there was a younger guy standing underneath an umbrella and he was telling us that the social security office was having a tech problem and they were completely closed. He wasn't wearing any sort of like official t-shirt or name badge or anything and there was no posted signs anywhere that there was an issue and that it was closed only the guy and he said you can pay for parking and go up and check if you wanted. The person in front of me was doing that so I decided to drive around the block a bit and when I came back the person was getting back in their car I'm leaving. Checking the SSA website it does say there is a technical issue but it did not say they were closed until later and when you click on the closed location section which is supposed to list the locations that are closed it said that all of them were open. I'm not sure why the Social Security office doesn't have a backup phone or email system to tell people that have an appointment scheduled that the building is closed. Doctors offices have them and I understand it's a technology issue but they should have had some sort of backup system that could just mass text message all the people that were scheduled.

But anyways if you can find another location I would definitely go there instead of spending $20 for parking which is insane.

Also wanted to make people aware that you can go to any SSA office you do not have to go to the closest one to where you live. I ended up scheduling an appointment at a different location and that one did not have you paid for parking and I was in and out in 20 minutes

Was in and out of the building in 20 minutes for a name change! Was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it was given all the bad reviews!
Tips for those looking to do the same:
1. Complete the online app for name change. The SSA website lets you make an appointment online once the app/form is completed.
2. Park along Orange Ave - there's ample metered parking for $1/hr.
3. Arrive in the building earlier than your appointment time to allow time to get through security. That took about 10 minutes.

2. Terrible experiences so far. Showed up on Thursday (at the Gatlin location) as a walk in and was told the wait could be 3 hrs long. The officer handed out fliers with a number to call and make an appointment and highly encouraged doing that. I decided to leave and call for an appointment. I called and made one for today at 3pm. When I showed up at 2:45 and checked in on my phone, I was told I still had to wait in a line of 100+ people. I even got a text that said it was my turn. The officer told me again no, that I had to wait in line. I've missed work twice now and still not gotten my simple name change completed yet. Terrible system that needs to be fixed.

Imagine trying to be proactive by placing an online application. You’re given instruction to bring in your ID to have documents mailed, just to arrive and find out that the service is by appointment only. Even better the next available appointment is next week when you’ve taken time off of work just to bring the documents. They really should update the website, unfortunately customer service is forced to hear about something that’s beyond them. Highly disappointed!

I called this number +1 (800) 772-1213 at 8:55 am and had my appointment before visiting the office. The place was clean and cool. Everyone was nice and helpful. Mr. Jay assisted me with my case. He was nice, quick and helpful and I had a great experience today at Orlando social security office.
