I enjoyed my very first visit to Operation Gratitude about a month ago! I helped out in their warehouse with installing shipping boxes to ready them for putting items in them, and then later placing items in those care packages. It all took place over 3 hours.

I was first very aware of the great things they do through becoming more familiar with veterans-based organizations at my workplace.

I signed up to volunteer through the UCLA Volunteer Center for its December 2018 "One Bus, One Cause" event there. I was among about 800 volunteers from various groups who participated that day.

Some things to remember before you go in to volunteer there:
* Parking is limited, so you may want to carpool, be dropped off, or park down the street and walk up
* Photo ID to show to security
* Keep your possessions in your car; they don't have a place to store your items
* Sign a release waiver (they have it on their website)
* Lead volunteers in the blue shirts do provide handy tips to make your job easier, so do keep an open mind
* Various jobs while there: Fill care packages (most popular), make paracord bracelets, stuff teddy bears for the kids of our troops, write letters to our troops, or perform a quality review of those letters

I may try the paracord bracelets or stuffing bears on my next visit!

I’m a Veteran going through radiation and rehab for cancer of the spine. Well I was coming up from my 6th treatment and seen the bag on my bed. Opened it and said really. You have put me in tears with your bag contents. And I would just like to say thank you for not forgetting our vets. I’m in Houston Va hosp. Thank you.

I have been volunteering with Operation Gratitude for many years. It is a great non-profit where they make care packages for deployed, veterans and first responders. They also make new recruit boxes. It is really gratifying knowing that you play a part in honoring those that serve our country!

I am completely impressed how this operation works. My wife and I dropped off some knitted scarfs and we saw someone and she asked if we wanted a tour and we were shown everything they do and who the help and the volunteers. It was incredible and I want to help more and we found out other items besides the scarfs that are needed and we will see what we can do to help.

They were so nice and found me something to do. Lisa showed me how to sign up on line. Inventory for them the next two weeks. Then I'll sign up again! Thank you Operation Gratitude for making my day!

I was a regular volunteer for many years, it was a good place to go to help support our troops. I had to stop for a while due to family issues.
Now that I have gone back I notice a difference in the volunteers,the regular every day volunteers are great.
It's the younger generation that does not seem to understand what it means to volunteer, to them its more of a social hour hour which would be great if they were only doing something productive with their hands and did something.
Other than being on their phones.
Their should be no cell phones allowed when volunteering.
