cute shop and unique drinks, my sister and i have tried the pandan matcha latte, pandan latte, sweet potato latte, and black sesame latte. the black sesame latte was surprisingly the best out of all of these, very nutty and rich. im pretty sure all syrups are made in house. the inside of the cafe is so cute, and the seasonal decoration makes it a standout. the corner nook is the best spot if you can grab it early enough, great place to sketch or read (wifi didn’t work for me when i tried working here). will definitely be a go to coffee shop when im in the area, worth the hype!

Ordered a black sesame latte with espresso and a pandan matcha latte.

Absolute disappointment. I was rooting for this place so hard - a Vietnamese matcha cafe with rave reviews - but the experience fell completely flat. The girls working appeared visibly disinterested in providing service.

The black sesame latte comes as just black sesame paste and milk by default. You have to pay an additional 50¢ for espresso, yet the coffee is imperceptible in the final drink. What you get instead is gritty, sandy milk with only a slight savory, nutty sesame taste.

The matcha latte was equally problematic. They store their matcha in a clear container which oxidizes the powder, and use far too little of it for the drink size. The pandan flavoring was virtually nonexistent - it seemed forgotten entirely. The matcha itself was poorly whisked, resulting in a gritty texture with barely any flavor coming through.

Tucked away in East Village, Le Phin is an adorable little Vietnamese coffee shop serving a solid menu of both classic and creative signature items. They have one of the best matchas I've found in NYC so far, either on its own or paired with their fragrant, not-too-sweet pandan syrup. It goes wonderfully with their selection of pastries, particularly their pandan honeycomb cake, which, too, is the perfect level of sweetness (not too sweet) and has a delightfully springy texture that makes the light, airy dessert the perfect afternoon pick-me-up or study buddy.

Le Phin doesn't have a ton of indoor seating, but if you manage to snag a spot, it's the perfect place to settle in for a long study / work session. It's relatively quiet, they have free and decent wifi, and the staff is super friendly. If you don't need to settle in for a grind session, they also have a good amount of outdoor seating.

Cute and cozy Vietnamese coffee shop serving great Pandan latte and other espresso drinks. The Phin hand brew coffee is very flavorful. You can work/study in this cute cafe (free WiFi) and still feel very relaxed. The staff is super friendly.
There is also an outdoor seating space. The only downside is no public restroom.

My partner and I tried the pandan matcha latte. Although the pandan flavor was very clearly present in the drink, the matcha was not. I was not expecting much from this place on the matcha front and I basically got what I expected. I was curious about pandan being incorporated into the drinks here, which is what led to me stopping by. Perhaps the pandan latte would taste more like the components that make up the drink, but this is certainly not a place to stop at if you want matcha. That is, unless you prefer starbucks matcha or anything of that sort. Then knock yourself out. I enjoyed the pandan flavor of the latte and think it’s nice to have in a drink. I also believe that if they cannot do matcha correctly, then they should not be offering it on their menu. This was essentially pandan with milk and sugar and it wouldn’t be such a drag if that’s how it was advertised instead.

to summarize: the pandan flavor was wonderful, the matcha flavor was not

Cutest little Vietnamese coffee shop in the east village! Owner is super sweet. Loved the pandan latte and the classic Phin coffee with condensed milk. Interior seating is really warm and inviting, though small! Will come back to try seasonal lattes (sesame, pumpkin sweet potato).
