I have a friend who lives there. The food is often a day close to their spoil date, or already spoiled, or some random things they threw together in a pot. I’ve seen pictures of the food they offer to their Guests, it’s disgusting. Most of it can’t be named or really described. The beds aren’t even supposed to be called beds. They are thin mats on Metal bunk bed frames. The mats are as thin as Gym mats. They get one small pillow and a thin blanket. They usually depend on donations to have food to eat. Today, in the morning, the shelter is out of milk, but it’s a cereal day. They had one small cup of milk each for these tiny package cereals, like the ones they give you in hospitals. And the staff barely care and don’t help the homeless people there get jobs. There is no recourses truly given to them. And this “New Start” Program, for people who want to work but don’t get paid. They also work AT THE HOMELESS SHELTER ITSELF. 8 hours everyday, one bus pass, a few privileges. That’s it, they don’t get paid anything. That’s slavery almost. And 8 hours takes up the whole day and it’s not consecutive, it’s only when they are actively working. If you work in the Cafeteria, you have to be there all day. Serving, passing out snacks, prepping food. When will they ever use the bus pass? They have no off days in their work week either but don’t get paid anything? This Shelter is using homeless people as well as not giving them opportunities for a better life. Don’t go here. They don’t care about you or your homeless friends or family or loved ones. People struggle.

I have been "living" here for 3 months. Although I'm on the "working persons program" (since I recently became employed) they offer ABSOLUTELY NO HELP in terms of finding housing. There is absolutely no case management in terms of housing. I personally know of several people who have been there for years! I'm just in a rough patch and I need help. Although I need emergency help for a place to stay, I'm looking for help to have permanent residence and get back on my feet. They should offer a savings program and help you find a place to live. Also, the mattresses they provide are the same ones you would get if you were in Elmwood. Life is hard enough. I don't need to feel like i'm in jail. It just honestly feels like they're trying to keep as many people there as possible for as long as they can, so they can get paid for it. And certain staff members act like it's a burden to even talk to us. What's the point if ur not providing services to get the homeless housed?

This shelter works if you have no other options; you get a bed and bedding and linens are provided which is very helpful. They also have plenty of donations for if you need hygiene supplies or towels they even have some clothes donations which is helpful for people that come with nothing. Aside from those benefits that I am grateful to have access to while I'm in this situation but the management and staff have no idea how to operate the facility smoothly. My largest pet peeve about this shelter is how each staff member has their own rules that they like to enforce. This is extremely unprofessional in my opinion they need to have a standardize list of rules and conduct that way when you go to ask a question there is one answer no matter who you are asking.

No way people Die in there SECURITY SUCKS. Staff needs a new swipe. Not friendly place . Unprofessional workers they need to be more humble kind Compassion.. the breakfast sucks like come on that place get funded with food for the poor food for the needy. Cook with more LOVE have a heart when your making breakfast lunch dinner what ever it is, don't take advantage of the poor and oppressed.. that place needs to be audit and check buy the State... Don't taunt the people less fortunate than yourself. What do expect from a shelter so if you can hange at the job leave and find people that care and that are meant to work at places like that.. this job is not meant for everyone one.

Thank you to Stephanie at the front desk for helping me out and contacting the pets of the homeless organization without hesitation. My dog Buddie is greatful too turns out that he needed surgery due to a infection under his nail that spread to all of his paws and could have became cancerous if not treated. You made it possible for his quality of life to be improved and mine too. Thank you.

Program were they stoled from me, stoked ally clothes almost every month, stoked all my backpacks almost every month, every time it was the staff and gangs from the neighborhood working together then they threaten to kill me,entrance is horrible steals money, phones, atm cards, harps on cigerretes, weed, crystal, beer, etc never made it to work, tried to steal my social security check rob my bank account etc, pretending it had state law authority etc, real corrupt and organized crime type of welfare institute unconstitutional revolutionary extremists. They beat one in the middle of the night and stoled my wallet and cash and back pack then acted like the cameras and other staff didn't see them then white cops acted like it's okay because I got drunk and high or something.
