me and my mom stayed here for a week in either late-2017 or early-2018 (I don't really remember but yeah) so when we first got there and the staff was cool but after a few hours and the staff is extremely rude and condescending and they have the most ridiculous rules ever. They drug tested my mom twice for no reason and refused to give us a reason for the second time (note that my mom already admitted that she does smoke weed sometimes and they said that is was okay.) and I'm pretty sure they aren't even allowed to do that. So when my mom wanted to take a nap after being out all day searching for a job and a house for us. when I got back from school, this woman named "justine" made me and my mom clean up somebody's yard as a punishment. excuse me? sorry my mom is a human and wanted to take a nap and relax after a long day of walking around and being on her feet finding a job and a house for us. also note that one of the staff came into our room and STOLE MY TABLET AND REFUSED TO GIVE IT BACK even after they said that it was okay for me to keep my tablet (my mom should've sued). and a woman at a library close by found out we lived in a homeless shelter and wrongfully accused my mom of being aggressive and mean when she wasn't (it was obviously because she is black). After that, we've had enough and was leaving and they said that we're gonna get our money back by a cheque and they never sent it. please don't go here.

I STAYED FORFA WEEK IN 2015 This place is a total joke! They Are NAZI'S and disrespectful towards poeple. They left me and my 3 month old daughter in a room with no air .Condition in 110 degree weather for 4 days. When I complained that it was very hot and just uncomfortable in there they they told me I was being over-dramatic. I was then told that I was not allowed to leave the premises and not given a reason why I was told that I was overweight and I needed to exercise so they gave me an exercise plan to work out for an hour nobody wanted to watch my three month old so I had to keep stopping because she was hungry and I was breastfeeding. One of the people came in and told me I was just being lazy and that I needed to get my big behind back up on the treadmill and do some walking and not worry so much about the baby and stopped using her as an excuse needless to say I packed up and left after that for days they kept to my computer my stroller my car seat and my cell phone refusing to give it back I left It .they can keep it!

My son, his girlfriend, and their four year-old son were admitted to this facility after completing the necessary intrusive paperwork and meeting the prerequisite "We will do this, we will not do that, we will comply with this, we will not violate that..." all conducted in the most obnoxious and humiliating manner by Ann, the Director. She is the rudest and most obnoxious person I could ever imagine to be the director of such a program, one intended to help those who are already humbled and humiliated by life's circumstances. Upon admittance, they were required to hand over all their money to Ann. Soon after their arrival my son and his family were out of the room for a while and when they returned they were confronted by Ann, who faulted them for the girlfriend having withheld $5, which was in the girlfriend's purse. Not only did the staff enter their room without authorization when they weren't present, but they searched her purse and confiscated the $5 they found there! Again, soon after that, they returned from a short walk only to find all their belongings thrown over the back fence into the alley - everything, including my grandson's clothes and toys! Not all of their belongings were recovered, because their belongings had been rifled through in the alley (or by the staff?) and some were taken. I called the Sacramento Bee for an investigative reporter to do an expose' on this facility, but no response. Same from the Roseville Tribune. Same from the Roseville PD. Same from the Placer County Dept. of Social Services. Same from the Chairman of the Board who oversees the operation of this unfortunate facility. Nobody showed any interest either in talking to me, talking to Ann, or in looking into the totally inappropriate manner in which Ann operated her facility. I say "her facility" because whomever I talked to seemed to point to another oversight person or entity as if no one wanted to confront Ann. She seemed to be immune from accountability. Quite an experience!

My son and I stayed there from Jan12th thru Mar13th, before we were shocked and angry to get off the bus from school and see our stuff out front. 4pm mind you. Of course to late to find anything. Never got a written or verbal reason for the eviction. I assume it was over the fact that they(staff) wanted to take the kiddos shoe shopping, but in no way was this made known to be mandatory at all. We made plans 2 weeks prior for my son to go see his friend that afternoon, and the correct procedures were taken on my part to let plans be known. So sat comes and the Director, who's name is Ann, says to my son, "Dominick let's go". I replied first calmly, " We made plans 2 weeks ago for him to see his friend so he's not going." She replies" He has to go, its mandatory. " lol. Nowhere was that noted at all. I replied back" No". Raised my voice, no cursing, nothing, "Dominick stop crying, you have to go. She's forcing you to do something you don't want to and wasn't mandatory." She comes up to me and tells me you have 2 hours to pack your stuff and leave. WOW. So I pack my stuff and wait for my son to get back. He comes up stairs and says they told me we are not kicked out. Wait you are relaying messages thru my child? Super professional. So sat. Night we stay, sun. We stay. Monday wake up, catch the bus for school, come home at 4 and our stuff is out front. This woman is so unprofessional and as far from caring its sickening. Brooke is 2nd in charge and she is the real deal. Has a heart, cares, genuine, should be director. Ann, evil, cold, there for a pay check. This woman needs to be held accountable for her unprofessional conduct, and exposed. It is my vow to asap proceed that with relentless passion. They still have a lot of our stuff as well. Unfortunately they did it to the wrong one in this case. Very strange its always just woman there? Ann....See you soon heffer.

Home start was great at taking me in right away, however it took 9 days for them to get all the paperwork together for me to read and sign. I paid $300 for my rent before all my contract paperwork was done and my cell phone had to be surrendered while I was there leaving me and anyone there with no way to call 911 in case of an emergency after the office closes at 5:00 pm. Not only is this dangerous not having a way to call out for an emergency but Home Start is located in a business area of mostly car lots so I would really have to do some running around to find help after hours in worse case scenario. Home start wants you to leave your baby with someone you have never met or seen that lives there that has not been screened and could be potential pedophile.The meetings I attended at Home Start were over at the same time you are to be starting chores which forces you to be in two places at the same time and there is no excuse for you if you're late. The women were condescending and rude treating me inferior to them with total disrespect. I realized this was not going to work out so on day 10 I informed them of this at 4:30 pm, being that the office closes at 5:00 they gave me 15 min to pack and kicked me out on the streets with my 1 year old baby and told me I could pick the rest of my things up near the dumpsters the next day whenever they get it out there no later than 5:00. This left me waiting for my belongings all day from when they opened at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in 105 degree weather with my baby near a dumpster . Overall I paid $300 to stay for 10 days.

This place needs exposed by a major news show. Who is funding this place? I know a mom pregnant with twins, and she could not have access to a phone in case of emergency. Another single mothers name came up on the section 8 list, and they put the notification aside until it was too late. Someone shrugged and said, "oh, sorry, the holidays. Just got busy" They force their participants to open personal mail in their presence and read letters to staff.

On approx. 7-19-2014 myself and my 2 children was homeless and needed shelter and went to Home Start in Roseville, CA. The only money I had was $25 and on 7-21-14 I gave it to them, out of that they gave me a $5.00 check so I could wash clothes.then on 8-4-14 I gave them my Welfare money of $310.00. Then on 8-5-14 I left there because of the treatment we were receiving. Today I just received the statement from Home Start and they kept ALL my money. I am 33 weeks pregnant, they wouldn't let me go to the doctor and when I left they would not give me any of my money back, plus called CPS on me. All is ok thankfully because my Aunt took me in. I have called TELL 10 . I urge everyone that has had any problems with this place to PLEASE do the same. This is a non-profit place and I have never felt so abused. PLEASE, PLEASE FLOOD NEWS 10 WITH CALLS, NO MATTER HOW LONG AGO THIS HAPPENED TO YOU.
