The folks working at the goodwill donation center are a mix of characters. Usually friendly, but sometimes a little awkward. I have been going quite often as I prepare to move across the country. They have taken almost everything I have donated.

Update for my lifestyle clients:
Goodwill hired 800 employees back from the 1200 they let go during the pandemic. They still need 400 people. The attendant said that it takes five or six goodwill employees every day of the week to keep the operation going, even on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Since they’re closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I asked the attendant today, how many people did he have to stop from just leaving things outside the bins which are locked up. He replied 44 as of 3:44 PM. Interesting Synchronicity!

Sometimes it’s hard to find, because it’s the next turn after interstate five as you’re headed east. Or the last right turn before Highway five if you’re headed west. The attendant was very friendly and very kind. People are giving him a hard time when he doesn’t make the rules.
So, as always, be kind.

I have an suv with a hatch back that opens- when making a donation I asked them several times not to open the back hatch. They continued to yanking on the handle damaging my vehicle. I got an attitude from the supervisor when I mentioned I asked for them not to open the door. I thought I would try donating again today as they are close by, sure enough as I pull up the guy goes straight for the back hatch. I kept the doors locked- waited for him to step away and as I got out I stated “do not open the door” and he did anyways breaking items packed in the back. I appreciate their hard work out there, but they should wait for people to open the part of the car where the donations are. The items I was donating both times were not even in the back of the vehicle where they were opening/ breaking.

Located in a park-and-ride lot off La Costa exit of I-5. Plenty of parking, some shaded. Getting to the donation location in the lot is easy. Signs guide the cars. Usually three or four workers quickly take your donations. Easy in and out.

Odd hours. Employees standing around looking at you as you pull up and then they say, ... “we’re closed“.
If you’re closed? Please Put up a big sign that says “CLOSED” so I don’t drive all the way over there and then have to talk to some guys sitting in chairs only to say were closed.
Another time, there was a long line of vehicles with everyone sitting in their cars with engines idling -wasting fuel and polluting the air.
So, Why not have 2 lines because after all, there were 3 employees with two different areas taking donations.
Who is in charge
And Have have a sign that says turn your engine off.!!
Goodwill rakes in the cash as they get all of their inventory for free. (no I’m sure a lot of what they take in his junk however ) they get to sit here on public land and conduct business so they should try a little bit harder to help out someone who is donating.

Very convenient Goodwill drop-off center right off the I-5 at La Costa Avenue with drive-through service. Pull into the "Park and Ride" parking lot. Go straight to the end, then circle around to the side. There's usually a short line of cars (2-3 at most). When it's your turn, they will come to your car, take your donations, give you a receipt and you're on your way.

It's a good cause too.
