Would rate 0 stars if I could. This place is poorly ran. The company can't keep a competent case manager. The founder, Pastor Tom Knolls is a slumlord, who is constantly in violation of DC building code. If you are donating to this organization please know the money is not being used to help the clients they claim to help. The money is being used to upkeep his church at the corner of 4th and E. Meanwhile the building housing the clients is infested with rats and bedbugs. Their remedy to this is to have American pest control slide paper glue traps under tenants doors. Not sure why this organization has such a high rating. Possibly because Pastor Knolls has more of his employees living in these publicly funded programs than clients who need help. For example Ernestine Springs employed by CFLS, but yet she is living in the Trinity Arms transitional housing program. Also he has a man named Demetrius living in same Trinity program that is supposed to house women and kids fleeing domestic violence, or women reentering society from jail. Demetrius is living in the apartment building with these families. He smokes crack in the building and frequently the 1st floor hallway, outside of smells of this illegal drug. When families complain about the conditions at this program, they are harassed, threatened with illegal evictions, or are told the services the clients had been receiving are no longer available to their families.

My daughter and I resided in transitional housing provided by CFLS from 2009 to 2011. The staff were very supportive of us during this challenging time. I became unemployed, lost my apartment and began staying with family and friends, which didn't work-out too well and needed a place to stay. I contacted the Virginia Williams Resource Center on Rhode Island Avenue, and was assigned a case worker who referred me to CFLS. During my time in transitional housing, I remained focused on my short-term goals, which were to find employment with a decent salary to support my daughter and I and to finally move into another more comfortable apartment. Although it was challenging going through this transition, it helped me to build character and made me mentally and spiritually stronger. It also allowed me to have compassion for people who are experiencing life challenges, mainly homeless people. You never know what happened to put them in their current position. So, please try not to judge them.

I always look for local community stops for information. This human resource center is one of my favorites because they have a new remodeled computer room where you can make or update your resume. They even let you print and make copies. The customer service rep was excellent and very helpful and their like this every time I walk thru the doors. Try Community Family Life for all the helpful information one can use on replacing Id's, copy of birth certificate, or case management. I do...

One of the worst companies to come across. Unfortunate that an environment with such a diverse leadership could be so horribly handled. The place is run like a prison yard - ironic. There is a culture of unrest and backstabbing that was there long before I ever stepped foot in the place. The clients can not receive consistent help because the turn-over rate is so darn high! If you are a "positive client" this is NOT where you want to receive services. Most clients fall out of care here because management can't keep it together. The whole management team needs to be dismantled.

They do not help with these services if they do not like you. They are very personal instead of being professional, I've been here only one time before I came back for the second time and they were very rude especially the front desk staff. I'm pretty sure they are manipulative within their services and not willing to help people in their time of need. They have these papers around the center which they are falsely advertising that they help and they don't!!
