So I just called community action looking for assistance for a security deposit and the lady who answered the phone said go call a church in your area. I asked her does your program assist in helping with security deposit and she said no and hung up on me. I called back and asked her for her name and she said her name was Jesse. She was absolutely rude. My children and I have been struggling and renting room after room for years now. I’m a full time working mama. We finally were chosen from the waitlist for a low income apartment and we are so excited. I’ve hit every brick wall trying to find assistance for the security deposit to move in and this lady had no care in the world for anyone other than herself. She has no need working in a company to help people when she has absolutely NO compassion for others.

I'd liked to write a review, for Community Action Oxnard, CA. This organization really stepped up to plate sorta speak, when it comes to good weatherization in my apt home.
After calling to get simple information about my appliances, and light fixtures they placed me on a waiting list. before I know it they had reached my name. They called me about my need's and they visited, made a really good assessment, even replaced my refrigerator, and stove to a more energy
efficient and it is really nice. They were courteous, and respectful and what I truly liked the most, is how much team work was a major factor. And everyone played a
part in the upgrade to great weatherization
appliances, and more. Community Action....a wonderful organization.
Thank you so much.

The help being offered is needed. To get help, you have to complete 20+ pages, have a valid ID, social security card, bank statements, proof of income, and rental agreements along with any other information they require. Communication from the workers can be frustrating, and the process can take months. It's probably easier to just get a 2nd job and pay the bills..good luck

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! This NOT an organization that helps, they only help if you’re already on some kind of state aid. They don’t care about anyone who isn’t already receiving money from the state. Upon talking to our case worker it was clear he didn’t want to help us and tried to discourage us from the start. They have zero regard for actual people and don’t care what your income to expense ratio is they just have numbers they chose and if you make more than that they won’t help you. This is strictly a program for people already receiving benefits in some way. They don’t actually care about struggling families at all. Instead you’re labeled based on your income. You’re a number not a person. Don’t get your hopes up for help if you’re not already receiving benefits because you’ll get labeled and denied. Don’t bother giving them all of your personal information for nothing. HORRIBLE AND UNFAIR ORGANIZATION!

OPEN WEEKDAYS NOW or so I was told. I am also told the pantry is still giving out food Thursdays at 1:30 PM.
Services are uneven; they have faltered often.
Business hours change often. Showers were closed for a ridiculously long time; the City kicked in $40,000 to get the showers redone. The paperwork was botched, it took almost six months to get the showers up and running.
Earlier, I got bad information on getting health coverage; it needlessly took a year.
IMPORTANT: Bad information is very prevalent in Oxnard, especially with service agencies. Ask at least two parties as a rule. Ask ALL parties as to whether the information given is accurate, particularly contact information.
Phoning Community Action often results in foul-ups. I have been transferred to known vacant offices, I have been put on hold and forgotten, and I have been given bad information.
I was not impressed by this outfit and had grave doubts about their competency as regards correct information and initiative. I sure do hope they are more helpful and competent this time around.
REMEMBER: double check on any and all information offered in Oxnard! Bad information is practically a way of life here!

We're extremely grateful for the services that they offer, especially during these difficult times. <3 We originally learned about them a few years ago. They built a ramp onto the elevated porch of our home. Today we'll be picking up a pantry box.

I really like this place. I've had to go there several times and each time I went it was a different person who help me. And everyone of them were very nice and helpful. And they go out of there way to help people
