Awesome drive-thru spectacle - we saw Pintails, Coots, Mallards, Sandhill Cranes, White Fronted Geese, Stilts, Plovers, Blackbirds, Egrets, Grebe, Sparrow Hawks, Killdears, Red Tailed Hawks, Pipits, Black Crowned Night Herons, Cormorants and about ten others we couldn't identify. It's worth a solid two hours. Lookout post at the beginning. Clean restrooms.

This time of year there are few birds, especially in late afternoon when I went to the reserve. However, I saw egrets, grey herons, and 3 mallard ducks as well as mud hens.

There are so many Geese flying in the sky, we had to check this place out. Self guided auto tour. Trails for walking too. Even Blinds to reserve. Lots of photographers. Very interesting. Free. Would love to be here when lots and lots of birds are here!

I went here to check out winter migratory geese and ducks and others. Came here late November and late February 2024. Sightings much better in November, thousands took flight. By late February just about all geese returned home with mostly ducks behind. Colusa sight also flooded and closed to auto route.

Really picturesque and serene place to visit especially early in the morning in the wintertime when it’s full of birds spending the winter. If you get there really early, you can see the tule fog rising from the ground which makes the visit even more special.

My friends and I did the auto tour the other day, and we had a lovely time looking at all the different birds. Definitely make sure to take advantage of the restrooms at the entrance, because it takes a good 90 minutes to do the entire loop. Bring binoculars!

this Refuge supports wintering populations of more than 200,000 ducks and 50,000 geese. It is a drive thru only refuge so DO NOT GET OUT OF CAR you could disrupt the mating cycles! there is a lot of endangered plants and animals that live here. It's a great place for photography, and I see animals almost every time I go! some animals that I have seen include Deer, pheasant, turkey, cranes and all kinds of birds, cotton tail rabbits, Hawks, vultures.
