Cedar Rapids is in dire need of more Occupational Therapists, and my four-year-old daughter needs it. My options were to get on a waitlist at ChildServe, which would be a month or so, or be put on the waitlist at Witwer, which was approximately a year long. The choice was obvious and I'm SOOO glad that we went with ChildServe!! Our Therapist, Hallie, is phenomenal, and incredibly patient with my daughter, and myself as well. As my daughter hopefully learns how to control and communicate her emotions and I learn how to let Hallie hold the reins and just sit in the background. It sounds easy enough, but it's a habit that's difficult to break. But, we're working on it! I am so thankful that there is a new place and a bunch of new occupational therapists so they can help so many kids who need it. If you have a chance to get your child in there, I'd do it. My son used to go to Witwer when he was younger and I don't think there are any really big differences between them, I think the big differences are going to be with the specific therapist you get. Make sure that the one you get listens to you and your child and tries to actually create a solid relationship with your child because that is what makes this special, and so important, and our therapists have done that.
