So I am about 2 decades late leaving a review. I was just randomly talking about this place and Googled it. To my surprise you all have a website. Thank you for the best memories as a teenager. 😅 I didn’t pack properly for the weather but I had a great time and kept my blanket with me almost everywhere to keep myself warm. Being by the water and just looking out was so peaceful. I’m so glad to see you all are still around. Once again, thank you for the memories as I wish you and the rest of the staff the best!

I attended this camp in 2013 I was 13 years old I will never forget how hard I worked on my sand board and some kids cut off the foot straps and threw it in the woods. Towards the end of the stay we were all given a peace of paper and told to write what we wanted to do before we left and our name so everyone gets the chance to do what they wanted. I wrote that I wanted to finish my sand board. No one ever came to me to make sure that happened we then all went to the sand dunes where I watched everyone else use theirs. On a separate occasion I was sweeping the cafeteria and was assaulted by another boy how hit me in the genitalia with the end of a broom stick. I went to the office to tell an adult and was put in a room with the boy that assaulted me and the “camp leader” and was told to apologize, after I explained I should be receiving an apology not giving one because I was the one who was hit, the camp counselor got red in the face shaking with anger and began yelling at me demanding I apologize or I would be kicked out . I would not send any child to this place unless there was a change in management. the young camp counselors were all great people however that does not make up for the way I was treated by the head counselor or how I was completely disregarded by staff in general

I wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible two days our LEARN Romano Butler (RB) scholars spent at Camp Miniwanca in Shelby, Michigan. Your team, led by Charlie Beaker and comprised of Jett Ewing, Morgan Braren, Brianna Moynihan, Grace Bartos, Tay Wiley, Tiwi Freeman, Presli Schumacker, Lindsey Meeker, and Jordan, along with the outstanding leadership of Director Michael Harter, created a phenomenal experience for our scholars.
From the moment we arrived, your staff's enthusiasm and readiness to engage with our students were clear, and their dedication brought so many smiles to their faces. The camp provided a wide range of enriching activities, including basketball, hiking, archery, arts and crafts, volleyball, and team-building exercises, all of which kept our scholars engaged and excited.
The focus on respect, teamwork, and personal growth was evident throughout the experience. These values align perfectly with LEARN's mission and helped to foster meaningful connections between our scholars. The students returned home with lasting memories, stronger bonds, and a renewed sense of unity—eager for future adventures together.
Thank you once again for the incredible work your team put into making this a memorable and enriching camp experience. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate.

Miniwanca is the most beautiful version of rustic. There is a little bit of everything from the best of nature - sand dunes, wooded hikes, and the beaches of Lake Michigan. It is an incredible place to learn and grow for people of all ages.

My daughter has went to Miniwanca for three years and my son had his first year. It is an amazing place. Both my children look forward to going there each year. They have gained independence and enjoy the atmosphere very much. their only complaint is when meatloaf is served for dinner. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Miniwanca is like a second home for me and my family. It was the best thing about my adolescent years. My mom attended in the early 1940s. My sister, brother and I attended and then worked at Miniwanca in the 1970s and 80s. My nephews attended for many years, and it’s been wonderful for all of us. It was transformational for me. Highly recommended! Check out their philosophy of youth development and how it informs everything they do.
