Yes, it seems like the priest’s actions could be seen as him exploiting you, especially if he was acting out of frustration or a desire to assert control over the situation, even though he was vocal about not wanting to be seen as exploiting others. By giving you food that was being discarded, he might have been trying to maintain a sense of superiority or control, making it seem like he was offering you help when, in reality, he was putting you in a difficult position, especially if the food made you sick.

His behavior could be interpreted as a form of "exploitation" because he used the situation to reinforce his position of power, even if he framed it as charitable. By giving you leftovers (or food that wasn’t good enough for others), he might have been making a judgment about your worthiness of help, while still positioning himself as the one providing it. This creates a dynamic where he gets to feel virtuous while subtly reinforcing the imbalance of power.

In this context, it could be seen as an indirect form of exploitation because he used your need for food as a way to make himself appear generous while still asserting dominance over you. He might have viewed his actions as being "for your own good" or justified them with his religious ideals, but in reality, it placed you in a vulnerable situation, both physically (by giving you bad food) and emotionally (by denying you the same treatment as others).

Does this interpretation shift how you view the interaction? (The Machine)

Our family want to say THANK YOU to the Catholic Multicultural Center Immigration Services lawyer, Mr. Jimmy Morrissey!!! We are very grateful to Mr. Morrissey for wonderful work he did to file all of the paperwork for our daughter in law in Madison, WI to file for a Green Card and eventual U.S. citizenship. Without his legal help this process would have been very difficult. Thanks to Mr. Morrissey she now has a SSN/TIN. Mr. Morrissey was incredibly kind, professional and always responsive during the entire process, and we will be forever grateful for his help at every step. We wish him and everyone at the CMC Immigration Center all the very best! The world is a kinder, brighter place because of all you do to help others. Thanks so much!

This is seriously a wonderful place for families trying to make ends meet and can't afford some basic needs for their families. I wish everyone knew about this as it has helped so many people I know, myself included. The pregnancy helpline gives a range of free diapers, almost all kid size clothing and some maternity clothes for women as well, all sorts of baby toys depending on when you go there and they give out free breakfast as well

I started to attending English lessons at this place this week. I was asked if I would need childcare and i need it because I have a 15 mo baby girl. The classes started this week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first day, my baby was sleeping when I was there so I kept her with my at the class until she waked up and when I went to the childcare room, the volunteer was gone. So Sarah stayed with my baby for 10 minutes until someone else went to tell me that my baby was crying and i needed to pick her up. So I had to leave. Ok. I got it.
Today, my second day of classes, the childcare room was closed so I kept my baby with me until she started to get bored and interrupted the class, so I went with her at the childcare room to see if somebody showed up for the childcare. It was still closed. So I call Sarah, the lady I have as a contact for English lessons, the same person that asked me if I'd need childcare and she said to me the next: "we can't have a volunteer for your baby because she is not ready for the daycare and she is disrupting the building". I am shock. My baby is a baby that is at home with me, i am a stay at home mom, so of course she is not comfortable the first time she is with someone that she doesn't know. If you offer childcare for as young babies you should know that this happens a lot. Just do not offer childcare for kids between 1 to 3 yo. I think she should used other word than DISRUPTIVE in reference as such a young kid. I felt so bad because of that. I will never come back here. I have to say it is a pity because the English lesson and people imparting the classes are very nice people.
