I have had several amazing experiences with home repair services over the last 6 years, first was getting help having my furnace replaced after not having had a working one in 6 years, second was when they helped me with a low cost water heater as that went out shortly after the furnace was replaced. I also qualified for an amazing kitchen remodel that was a more than manageable price for me to pay. They have even serviced my furnace a few times for a very reasonable price. Then this year they helped me get a home maintenance check up so I know exactly what is wrong with my home and how I should prioritize fixing the problems that were found during the check up. My father whom is an honorably discharged veteran also received assistance from them this year. HRS, their donors, and volunteers had a beautiful disability ramp installed for him as he unfortunately has mobility issues that will only get worse with time. This ramp has really made both our lives better as he now has a safe way to get into and out of our home and I do not have to worry about him falling down our aged stairs. Words can not express how grateful my father and I are to have received your help over the years. Thank you so much and God bless everyone involved with your organization. We and the community appreciate your help.

This is a great service for the community. They help people by building wheelchair ramps, offer free, hands-on home repair classes, and can come by and do a home inspection to let homeowners know problem areas in the building.

I had a very bad experience with HRS it was during Covid that I complained and they didn’t like what I said so they blacklisted me from any type of repairs. My income is within the standards for all repairs and they refuse to do any repairs to my home to me. This is discrimination. I have done nothing wrong. They don’t seem to care I’m disabled and the repair I requested is for my electric and they refused to honor my Repair. Because of the things I said about them. I don’t understand why they singled me out from any type of repairs from their services may be as best for me just to contact the state of Michigan or the Attorney General to take action on the way I was treated. The board of directors and the management staff don’t care don’t Seem to cure it’s a nonprofit organization, and I feel that I was treated unfairly for my repairs

The men seem to be very degrading toward women. They come across as though women have no idea in the construction field or even know what we’re talking about. If you have an issue with something, they will drop the ball, come up with quotes which have nothing to do with what was talked about. Be told because you’re low income they think you live in filth or they’re used to going into hoarders homes and not someone’s that is spotless. Disabled/low income come in all shades. Don’t bother posting on LinkedIn because they don’t want their donors to know how they treat individuals and they will cover for each other. I had more respect for them up until these last few years and how they treated myself vs one of my neighbors. They need training on all levels in how to work with disabled people and low income. Stop making excuses and asking how someone figured out something was going wrong with their home. Google is a huge resource and making excuses for others actions and making jokes about it, makes you look just as poorly as they not only the manager but the CEO laughing about it. Huge turnover in this place and understandably why. I’ve had expensive items ruined and they don’t care.
Others I know working in nonprofits don’t understand why they treat certain individuals one way and others completely different and why they’re so worried someone’s going to see what’s posted on LinkedIn and tell you condescendingly it’s inappropriate to post and let others know. People need to know.

This is an amazing non-profit. The classes I took with my wife taught us basic skills about our home and how to maintain it and save money. Great classes, awesome people!

In the past four months, every faucet in my 50+ year old home has sprung a leak. Not only did Mark from HRS fix the leaks, he went the extra mile and replaced each of the facuets. And in his last visit, he even installed individual shutoff valves on my bathroom sink (which he did without being asked to do so). Because of my income level, the cost of all three services (icluding equipment) was less than the cost of a single visit from a commercial plumber. Thank you HRS. And, especially, thank you, Mark. You're a gem.
