Unfortunately, the VA's well-deserved bad reputation is alive and well in White Cloud. I called a week before and talked with Steve, set up a time and day to meet and talk about my recently passed Marine father, who served in WWII and Korea. He spent extended time in Camp Lejeune in the 40s and 50s, my elderly mother and I wished to discuss what options were available outside of legal action. Here's where it gets odd, I was looking at their overly organized bulletin board and noticed a posting about transcendental meditation, this immediately reminded me of the hippies of the 60s and I chuckled about it. Oddly, this offended the secretary, Mark who claimed transcendental meditation has helped him, I'm pleased it helped him, but still thought it was humorous. This further offended him and he said "I was not to laugh about it in HIS office", I asked what he was going to do about it and he said he'd call security. Really, calling security over chucking over transcendental meditation? I think Mark could use a LOT more meditation, chill out man. They didn't really want to be bothered by us, they did give us some paperwork to fill out to contact other government agencies, that Mark told us don't interact with the VA, great, I don't expect much from them either. Three people working out of this office where it appears one part-time employee would be sufficient, sadly, it appears, the VA's under-worked and over-payed reputation is well deserved.

I am a 30 year retired veteran. I have dealt with a multitude of VA personnel and county Veteran's Affairs Officers (VSO) throughout the country. It must be noted, county VSO's DO NOT work for the VA! I have personally worked with Steve and Mark with my claims and have referred many people to their office, all of whom have been extremely satisfied with their services. With no reservation, Steve and Mark are the best VSO's I have had the pleasure of working with!! I HIGHLY recommend using the Newaygo County Veteran's Service Office for your VA claims, questions, and assistance.

Absolutely worthless. DO NOT GO TO THE YOUNG GUY. he has No idea what he's doing, he's just fine at filling out an ITF, But does not keep records of who he talks too. He loses paperwork directly from VA doctors as well as civilian docs and then fires off attitude when you remind him of the paperwork you dropped off directly to him.
