We joined the Pleasant Hill YMCA in August 2024, excited to be part of the community, but unfortunately, our experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The staff, particularly Nannette, demonstrated poor communication and unprofessionalism, repeatedly mishandling our children’s swim lesson schedules. Despite confirming changes multiple times, we arrived only to find our children’s names missing from the roster.

When I raised concerns, I was met with rude behavior, including being told to stop bringing my kids to lessons just to “avoid her mistakes.” This treatment left us feeling unwelcome and disrespected. We won’t be returning.

They've got an outdoor pool that's very well-maintained and the staff are total sweethearts. During Covid times, they've been good and consistent with safety protocols, to the point where it's probably the most comfortable/safe place I've been in besides my own house. Before Covid times, they've got a good weight machine setup and a bunch of good basketball courts.

On December 2023, I contacted the YMCA at Pleasant Hill to ask for information about their baby swimming classes. On the phone they told me that they have an indoor pool and that my husband could alternate and go in the pool with me even if he is not a member.

With this information, in January 2024 I decided to become a member and to enroll my little one on the swimming class. Today it was the first class and, when we get there, by my surprise, they tell me that the classes are in an outdoor pool and that, as my husband is not an active member, he can't get in the pool.

I was really upset about this, so, when I went outside and mentioned it to what seems to be the pool coordinator, she apologized and said that she would understand if we leave or that we could try the lesson as we were there and she could talk to the manager to give us a refund. She mentioned that she would get my information and that we would talk about it after the class.

I told her that, as we drove all the way there, we would like to stay. In the class, there were 2 instructors and 2 other toddlers with their parents. We had taking swimming lessons before at another locations so we knew what the class was about. Instructors didn't seem to know what they were doing and one of the other parents were surprised that the class was outdoors too.

After 15 minutes of class, all families decide to take the kids out because it was freezing and they were shivering.

After we get out and change, I went out and talk to the coordinator and she tells me that she talked to the manager and they say that because I went into the pool (when she was the one who offered it in the first place) , they can't give us a refund. They offered us credit for the reminding of the lessons towards the membership (when I had already mentioned that we didn't live there and that we weren't interested in continuing).

I am sure this wasn't the coordinators first day working there and I'm pretty sure she knew the policy. She basically tricked us and told us lies to get into the water, knowing that we wouldn't get anything that way. She should have told us up front, not to get into the pool so we could get our money back.

I am frustrated at the lack of open hours, especially with them closing at 5pm on a weekend. Considering the cost of the membership compared to others, they should have more accessible hours to come in and workout. Front desk staff is great others are ok

I have been taking my niece and nephew here for swim lessons. We are on week 2 and while the pool is lovely it is chaotic. As someone who was not at all familiar with the facility, there are no signs directing you where to park, where to enter or where the pool is located.
Once inside there was no information on where the swim lessons were other than being told to go to the pool. The first week, I asked the teacher who was in the pool if I needed to check the kids in or how we get started. She didn't know had to ask so we wasted their lesson time getting things sorted out. They had set up tandem lessons for the kids rather than at the same time which was different from the email we had received. Then week 2 of lessons they switched instructors on us with no notice only saying the other instructor wasn't there.
On the positive side, my niece loves working with Derek. The instructors have tolerated my nephew's half hour of screaming and protesting.

The staff acting ignorant as I've proved my service dog allowance in the facility, they badgered me 3 times within a half an hour and definitely lost a customer.
It's been hours and I've made 3 requests to talk to the manager, 5pm now and I'm still waiting.

I called to ask about lost and found. She didn't even bother to ask when did it happen? Or what do the items look like? She just said no. There was nothing brought up to the desk. I was just wow! I thought YMCA would do better than this. I would rather stick with Berkeley location

I would love it. But i feel like there is a unwritten plan. I do not feel included. Almost, if i am an uncomfortable unconvince. For the price it should feel way more inclusive. Some of the seniors are very entitled and rude. I only have a limited time to work out. A couple of older gentlemen have told me, "i cannot use the equipment because they "planned on using it". Not cool. Not acceptable. I can't tell grown adults how to act. My son is doing swim lessons there. I want to n be comfortable doing classes here. We are here to stay. I want to feel more comfortable
