Over 25 years ago I was pregnant with my first child; I was a college student and didn't know where to turn to. I went to Planned Parenthood for support; but their support was to "abort" the child. I was so grateful for PPS of SLO; at that time in Arroyo Grande; to help guide me to the right path of having a healthy beautiful daughter! They helped me get the right care that I needed; set me up with funding that I needed; as well help guide me to make sure that my pregnancy was well kept care for with my child. They even helped find me a midwife in the process of the pregnancy which I will ever be so grateful for! Pregnancy & Parenting do not judge you! They help you every step of the way to help insure the best pregnancy and positive response to helping you become a great parent as well! I'm so grateful for this resource and encourage many women who find themselves pregnant to seek out the best help they can get and you can find that at PPS of SLO!

I used this organizations pregnancy services when it was known as Alpha with my first born (5 years ago) I was 19 at the time. It wasn’t a very welcoming or comfortable experience. It felt like I was being judged (like they not so secretly wondered if I actually needed the high chair I was taking.) or they wanted you to take the well used items because for whatever reason they deemed you as less deserving of newer items. But I was happy for the extra little help. I referred a friend over to the organization a couple years ago she had a similar expierence. She’s a total consumer conscious, thrifty lady. One of the staff had said my friend was “taking too many new items recently and she needed to take more of the used items” that observation seems totally shaming and distasteful to me my friend always donated these items back and she didn’t take many items to begin with. My friend is totally not a greedy or material person. We were raised on hand me downs. The organization gives women a certain number of items they can take when visiting; my friend would never reach that number and only took a small handful of items each time that were age/size appropriate for her child. My friend did enjoy some of the items such as books, clothing, bottle nipples she received from utilizing this program, but I find it interesting that we both shared similar expierences with this organization. I called recently hoping to receive a bit of practical pregnancy support for my current pregnancy basically new organization name, same uncomfortable vibe. I called to vent to my friend who shared her story with me. I won’t be taking advantage of our local pregnancy recourses because the stress and bureaucracy for prenatals and a onesie is not worth it. I’ll also continue to donate my child’s items to local church’s and directly to mamas in need as well. I hope that Pregnancy and parenting support of slo can be more friendly and less judgemental to women going forward.
