You call and when you try to select an option to speak to someone, it doesn’t even work. You cannot reach anyone by any phone number. I’ve literally tried all of them. The County of Monterey Social Services Dept. is impossible to contact. Good luck. I don’t even know if you can go to an office in person. Our State affiliated programs are a joke.

The experience of trying to apply for emergency help is infuriating to say the least. The staff shows little regard, and empathy for a potential client trying to receive emergency help. After missing an appointment (even though I repeatedly called back and left voicemails) I was told I was denied. (For context, I’m going through a domestic violence situation and need help) what am I supposed to do here, what is the county waiting for, for me to be killed so they can do something?!
I was told if I came into the office, they would be able to provide immediate assistance only to be turned away at the door.
This place is a joke.

For the entire month of May I've tried contacting my case worker and her supervisors. I've left multiple voicemails, others who work for the office have emailed her and 4 different supervisors. I have yet to receive a call back at all! How is anyone supposed to get help? I have been patient, I've been nice, and I've submitted the paperwork to update our benefits. I guess it's time for me to go into the office and start being not so nice because this is ridiculous. If possible, I will be filing complaints against those 4 supervisors and my case worker. This is foul.

This place will judge you for not having a job, but they can't be bothered to do their job!!!! This place is the kind of place that deserves a class action lawsuit.

If V. Santos is worker, change workers immediately!!!! She never answers her phone and she has never responded to any of my voicemails! She needs to be fired.

UPDATE: (I have never contacted any of my caseworkers for anything until now by the way.)

I got in contact with her supervisor and made him take a look. He said even though I turned in one doc late, (I could not have known it was late because Santos likes to hang up after two rings so there's not enough time to answer it!) everything was in order.

I hear nothing for one business day so I call and call and she FINALLY picked up. She said she was out of the office for a few days (I suspect that's a lie.) and she'd call be back by the end of the day. I wanted to ask "why not now?! Literally all you have left to do is approve it." But I gave her the benefit of the doubt and let the call end there. SHE NEVER CALLED. She lies and disrespects me and I know I can't be the only one that gets treated this way!!

Guess I just have to ask my friend to take another day off work to help me with getting a ride there and back so I can reapply! I told them that's what I'd be doing if I got denied and I guess they didn't believe me. But I will reapply over and over and over until they give me my benefits that I know I qualify for!!

Original review:
I was born with cerebral palsy and I've been dealing with a lot of complications that resulted in a trip to the ER. So I applied for General Assistance and she refuses to give me my benefits.

I needed three things:
-Proof of SS disability application
-official statement about my income level
-evaluation by county doctor

I already applied for SSA disability so I requested a recent letter because the one that was 3 months old wasn't good enough. They said they "can't" call SSA to verify themselves...

The doctor gave the evaluation said yes, I need medical help. Said re-evaluate in a year.

I had to sign the same papers multiple times because she lost them (or she made me go to sign papers in person because she knows it's hard for me to get around. I am homeless and on a walking cane!!) And she blamed it all on me. "You didn't do this, you didn't do that."

Meanwhile I am doing everything and more than what is required of me.

Funny thing is, I went back to that same Dr and she was so happy to see me! She made me feel so much better. She prescribed some meds and is setting me up with physical therapy, occupational therapy, a urologist, and a neurologist.

So what should I do when a "caseworker" is going over the head of a medical professional by denying my claim, which in turn is denying me transportation $$, clean clothes, and shower $$ so I can got to the Dr and NOT be embarrassed!?

Idk, but I'll see what my SSA lawyer thinks...

The service here sucks. After taking the bus with 4 little ones, to their office I was told by an intake worker that I was ineligible for assistance after losing my job. She went out of her way to disqualify me only for me to get in touch with her supervisor who proved me to be eligible... a perfect example why going over low level workers is a must.
