This is a great place to live. I’ve been here for a little over a year. I love it here I have my own apartment. Nobody bothers me. I belong to the aviators club, which kind of keeps me busy which I like and enjoy looking for a place for a senior to live, this is right here looking no further they do have a waiting list

I cannot say one Negative thing about California Armenian House Skilled Nursing!! Everyone is so kind and Helpful. My 90 year old Mother arrived her first visit after a 10 day stay in the hospital with Covid and very weak and came to California Armenian house skilled nursing to get physical therapy, she left there so much stronger walking with a walker like she was back in her 70s again. Unfortunately several months later she took a bad fall and broke seven ribs which put us back In the hospital again and needed rehab I requested California Armenian house for the second time and once again they did an outstanding job rehabbing her. Everyone from the doctors nurses CNA‘s activity director‘s physical therapist are all such wonderful wonderful people I highly suggest if you ever need a skilled nursing home this is where you wanna be!!!!

My mother started there in skilled nursing and is now currently full time and on hospice. Everything about her first eight months there have been great! From admissions team, Cathy, Tabitha and Nadar have kept our family informed and answered all our questions.

The nurses, LVN’s and CNA’s are very patient, kind, and helpful. They all work with mom daily and she actually doing pretty well for her condition. She loves when the student nurses and high schools learning health care are there. The facilities are kept very clean (someone is always cleaning) and the grounds are amazing with a great security staff!

No one wants their parents to be in a home, but if that is a decision you have to make, the CA Armenian Home is a wonderful choice.

I can't beleive it's already been a year since my mom was accepted! I had some experince with the home being another relative was there for rehab twice. I had been trying to find a better home for mom after another hospital stay. Cathy from admissions stopped me and asked if I was okay. I explained the situation to her, she listened! She told me to have mom referred to them. Cathy went out of her way to make it happen. Mom will be a lifetime resident due to dementia. They keep her busy with activities and socializing with other residents. This is a great improvement over the last home, where I would find her sitting in her room just staring outside. If mom misses a meal or activity, someone is asking where she was. It's a great feeling knowing so many people are watching out for her.
The entire staff, from gate security to laundry staff has always been friendly and willing to help if needed.
I will never forget mom's first nurse, Jamie. She went out of her way to make me feel comfortable leaving mom under her care. All the nurses, lvn's, cna's and staff are willing to take time to answer all of my questions.
I am very grateful everyday that mom is in a safe and caring environment!

I have been here one and a half years as a resident. This place is excellent. I came here and couldn't walk and now I can. The therapy is wonderful. The CNA's work with all their hearts. They answer my call light within 15 minutes. If it's on and a manager walks by then they answer. This is 100% true. My husband is here too. My son said last night that he sleeps well knowing we are here. He knows we are safe. The place is clean and well kept. It's like a five star hotel. I know what other places are like. This is the best. Ask any of the residents when you come to visit. They will say the same. I will never leave this place.

As a nursing student who recently completed a clinical rotation at the California Armenian Home, I had the opportunity to observe and engage with the facility's operations. I am thoroughly impressed by the high standard of care and the welcoming environment provided here.

Nursing Staff:
The nursing staff at California Armenian Home is exemplary. Throughout my rotation, I witnessed their unwavering dedication to the residents. They are not only highly skilled and knowledgeable but also compassionate and patient-centered. The nurses here work diligently to ensure that each resident's medical and personal needs are met with the utmost professionalism. They are always ready to mentor and support students, making the learning experience incredibly enriching.

Activities Department:
The activities department deserves special mention and is another highlight of this facility. The team is incredibly creative and enthusiastic, offering a wide variety of activities that cater to different interests and abilities. Whether it’s bingo, music therapy, fitness sessions, or social events, there is always something engaging happening. These activities are crucial for the residents' physical and mental well-being, fostering a sense of community and joy. I was particularly impressed by how the activities staff tailored programs to individual preferences, ensuring that every resident could participate and enjoy.

Overall, my experience at the California Armenian Home has been overwhelmingly positive. The dedication of the nursing staff and the vibrant activities department contribute significantly to making this facility a wonderful place for residents and a fantastic learning environment for students.

The good is the activities. They do that well. They use it in a lot of photos to sell the place. The grounds are wonderful as well.

The bad: This place is called skilled nursing which it is not. You actually need adequate staffing for that. They have one CNA for 20 patients. It can take as long as an hour when called. If it’s a bathroom call you are going to be soiled. As far as care
goes, let’s say you have open wounds from edema, good luck on constant care. I had to keep telling them to change the bandages and have the Dr look at it. The Dr would see the wound through pictures. I would go everyday and I talked to everyone and couldn’t believe the stories I would hear from the other patients. One time I was so upset I basically told the staff off in front of other patients and they all put their hands out and wanted to shake my hand.
For a brief moment in time I was their advocate. My mom’s health was declining and I could see it. The place was taking a toll on her in short order. I finally moved her out and she is in much better
care now. Everyone I talked to had the same story as my mom, lack of care.

Mom was initially admitted as a rehab patient on Medicare. When the rehab was close to being done they started asking me where I wanted my mother taken. We wanted her to stay as a private pay patient.But he kept on insisting that we take her elsewhere. I couldn’t figure out why because private pay is at
least $4000 a month more than Medicare. I finally just said no we want her here. Later I finally understood why, the care is not there and they know it. Why else would you turn away all that
money. Also the fact that I went everyday and saw a lot and they knew that as well. I brought up the staffing many times and they brushed it off.

I tried talking to the Board in order to fill them in on the staffing issue. It seems that they aren’t interested. They can read my review. As far as money goes to hire these CNA’s it can be done. They can make cuts in some areas that are nice to have but aren’t needed. The management side is a little large and can be cut. I read the financial statement it can be done but not with this group managing the place. Big changes need to be made and I don’t think
It will get done. It takes real leadership to make real change and that is not going to happen with this group. If I was on
the Board I would hire an outside firm to evaluate the facility present their case. Then I would have them make the necessary adjustments in staffing from management down. I was told they fire by committee, what if the person needing to be fired is on that committee. The part that is frustrating to me and why I’m writing this Is they understand and won’t make change. So that begs question do they have the right CEO. How about the lack of Board participation. I haven’t talked about how old the facility is and no updates have been done either. It looks like money is going to salaries and not to care. Like I said I reached out to the Board before writing this and they didn’t want to listen.

If you have a loved one and are looking for a place look at everything. What do I mean by that? Ask how many CNA’s per patient.Look at the facility and see if money is being spent to keep up the place. I’m not talking about the grounds outside but
inside. Don’t just look at all the people walking the hallways and think wow they have great staffing. That is not the case.
Most are students who can’t do anything, you need nurses and CNA’s. Understand that. The place my mom is at has a doctor that comes in everyday. The doctor will actually call me and let me know what’s going on. That never happened at the Armenian home at least that I ever saw. Ask questions. Good luck!

My mother spent 2 weeks in skilled nursing. Everything about the experience was terrific. From admissions to discharge, Cathy, Tabitha and Nadia kept our family informed and answered all our (endless) questions.

The nurses, aides, OT and PT folks were unfailingly patient, kind, positive and helpful. They all worked to get Mom back on her feet and back home again. She particularly enjoyed spending time with student nurses and high schools learning health care.

No one wants to be in skilled nursing, but if that is a decision you have to make, the CA Armenian Home is a wonderful choice.
