We came across this church accidently. When checked on the internet found that the captain John Smith who brought Pokohontus to England was buried there.
Unfortunately we can't see the grave. Only the spot where he was burrried before the Grate Fire of London in 1666.

Being a Sunday morning the whole area was so quite and piecefull.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also known as St Sepulchre-without-Newgate sits across the street from where Newgate Prison was once located and where the Old Bailey is now. Public executions were moved from Tyburn gallows in 1783 to the street between the prison and church, where they continued until moved again inside the prison in 1868. It was just outside (‘without’) the medieval walls of the City of London. The walls, tower and porch date from 1450. It was gutted in the Great Fire of 1666 and rebuilt. It has been substantially changed since then; the ceiling and plasterwork dates from 1834 and there were considerable alterations and much exterior re-facing in 1878.

Known as the musicians church, but equally the memorial chapel to the Fusiliers. The church is a peaceful and quiet place on a busy main road.
It is poignant as the resting place of the various battalion flags of the Fusiliers where many hang and some in a state of deterioration but still bearing witness.
The church is also the burial place of Woods the founder of the Proms at The Royal Albert Hall. And Capt John Smith.

Tea and tranquility. Yes they do serve tea. A beautiful interior dating back to the 12th century. Connections to Virginia, USA. An opportunity to sit and contemplate in peace. No entry fee but donations welcome. Wheelchair acess. Opposite City Thameslink Station . A little hidden gem.
